Job summary

A leading food processing company in Mount Olive, NC is seeking an entry-level maintenance technician to assist the maintenance team and operate production equipment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance, and adhering to safety regulations within a food processing plant. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for mechanical or industrial maintenance knowledge. This is a full-time position within a team-oriented environment.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Assist maintenance team and support all aspects of the maintenance department as needed or directed.
• Operate production equipment as assigned.
• Adhere to schedules and production requirements to produce product on assigned machine.
• Troubleshoot and repair various pieces of equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance tasks ranging from lubricating wear points to changing out blades.
• Tear down and reassemble equipment in support of food safety initiatives.
• Support and provide training to other IMTMOs and Production Associates in the proper running and completion of preventive maintenance tasks.
• Act in a manner that is consistent with Butterball’s core values. Must be able to work in both teams and on an individual basis. Must be self‑directed and focused on utilizing time efficiently.
• Utilize and adhere to various company policies to include safety and food safety regulations.
• Accurately track work assignments (time), account for parts and complete required paperwork.
• Perform all duties as assigned by management.
• Maintain regular attendance.

Minimum Qualifications (Educations & Experience)

• General industrial mechanical maintenance and/or electrical system experience preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Certificate/Diploma in Industrial Maintenance or similar area strongly preferred.

• Follow diagrams, operation manuals, manufacturing instructions and troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Communicate with all levels in organization.
• Ability to read and understand written instructions.

• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Physical Demands

• Stand, walk, use hands/fingers, reach with hands/arms, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, climb, speak and hear frequently.
• Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements

• Work performed in a food processing plant with high noise level, storage coolers/facilities.
• Assignments may range across the entirety of the plant complex, including non‑refrigerated and refrigerated areas, with temperatures ranging from -20°F to 90+°F.
• Position requires working around processing plant equipment.
• Must wear required PPE: steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hat, safety vest, gloves, and hearing protection.
• Noise level of manufacturing environment may exceed 85 dBA and require hearing protection.
• May work with raw and/or cooked meat.
