Job description

Engineering Tech – CNC Operator

9Wood is a leading North American manufacturer of custom wood ceilings. We help architects, designers, and contractors bring distinctive wood ceiling ideas to life with clarity, speed, and practical support.

The Engineering Tech plays a key role on our production floor. This position is a strong fit for someone who enjoys hands‑on manufacturing work, solving problems in real time, and helping production teams keep things moving. You do not need a college degree, but you should be comfortable on the shop floor, physically capable, and genuinely enjoy interacting with and supporting people.

Work at 9Wood

Architects and designers often need support when specifying a custom wood ceiling. Acoustical subcontractors also need clear pricing, installation, and technical guidance. In this role, you will support both groups, working closely with our sales, estimating, engineering, customer service, and project management teams.

We are building a stronger position in our niche market through what we call Custom Made Fast. "Custom" means designers can choose from millions of possible configurations. "Fast" means we provide reliable quoting, drafting, and fabrication support so projects can move with greater confidence and less friction.

What's on offer

9Wood is an employee‑owned company through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan, or ESOP. Employee ownership is one expression of our commitment to the welfare of our people.

No job or company is perfect. But we consistently hear from employees that there is something special about 9Wood. One example is our commitment to open‑book reporting. Each month, we review the company's financials with employees - the good, the bad, and the ugly - so everyone understands the financial score.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive annual pay range starts at $45,771, depending on experience
  • Paid holidays and PTO that increases with tenure
  • 401(k) program with all fees paid
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan retirement program
  • Medical and dental insurance for employees and immediate family
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) options
  • Life insurance
  • Commuter benefits
  • Continuing education benefits
  • Monthly financial meetings with all employees
About the role

This role is about more than collecting data and answering questions. It is about being a reliable, safety‑minded team member who helps production run smoothly and supports ongoing process improvements on the shop floor. In practice, this means you will:

  1. Serve as the primary point of contact for production staff "stop-and-ask" questions - resolve what you can and elevate more complex issues to the Manufacturing Engineer.
  2. Operate Production CNC
  3. Support continuous improvement activities using Toyota Kata methodology.
  4. Collect and document accurate cycle times, rates, and process data across all machinery and production areas.
  5. Work closely with shop floor operators and office teams to help resolve problems and implement solutions.
  6. Support other engineering and manufacturing projects as needed.

Physical Requirements This is a production‑floor‑based role. You must be able to stand and walk for the majority of 10 hour shifts and safely lift up to 50 lbs.

Skills and attributes that will help you thrive
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - you enjoy helping others and interacting with people at all levels
  • Comfort working on a busy manufacturing production floor
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and safety‑minded
  • Experience with CNC machines (Biesse RoverGo)
  • Basic CAD experience (Inventor or AutoCAD) is helpful but not required
  • Previous exposure to Lean or continuous improvement is a plus

9Wood is a proud equal opportunity employer. We are a drug‑free, EEO employer committed to a diverse workforce. We consider all qualified candidates regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, personal appearance, sexual orientation, family responsibilities, political affiliation, veteran status, or any other protected status.
