Job description

Plan and manage Welded Tube Department activities while providing technical and engineering support for manufacturing problem resolution, process improvement, product and system development, and implementation of new processes/equipment. Develop, configure and optimize industrial processes from inception through start-up and certification; assess processes, analyze data, and coordinate effectively among production, engineering, quality, suppliers and customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Lead daily departmental operations through Supervisors; monitor production schedules, capacity, job assignments, quality, safety, productivity, staffing and man-hours to ensure requirements are met.
• Provide technical and engineering support for process parameters, process design, material quality, processing deviations, equipment issues and manufacturing problems; perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Identify efficiency, scrap-reduction and productivity opportunities; conduct experiments/trials, document results, validate changes, and prepare reports/presentations for management.
• Develop departmental plans and schedules for new projects; manage implementation of permanent process changes, new equipment and technologies, working with vendors, manufacturing, quality, engineering and production teams while meeting budget and efficiency expectations.
• Monitor and improve equipment performance, maintenance, process and quality documentation; conduct equipment validations, safety/quality audits and follow up on open issues.
• Investigate customer product complaints and product-use issues; analyze data, determine causes, recommend solutions, communicate findings and maintain appropriate historical documentation.
• Communicate production requirements and process/system modifications to production staff; provide employee counsel, coaching and technical guidance to enhance productivity and quality.
• Manage departmental safety, quality, housekeeping, training and 5S programs; ensure employees are properly oriented and trained on processes, procedures and practices and comply with Hydro HSE, environmental, health and quality standards.
• Determine staffing requirements; define job requirements, participate in candidate interviews and hiring recommendations, support onboarding/training, conduct performance and disciplinary discussions, and recommend changes to pay or status as appropriate.
• Recommend and manage departmental operating budgets; authorize requisitions, monitor costs and report budget variances.
• Participate in meetings and task forces to integrate activities, resolve problems, obtain approvals and maintain knowledge of relevant developments, requirements and policies. Perform EMS responsibilities assigned by the HSE Steering Team and other related duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates in a professional office and manufacturing environment. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. There will be a need to enter the production floor and employee may be subject to operate in a manufacturing production floor environment. Employee may be subject to hazards including odors, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, noise and temperatures. This requires ability to safely maneuver throughout the plant and properly wear safety gear at all times. May be subject to environmental conditions.

As this position is subject to travel, employee may be subject to operating on/with airports, rental cars, public transportation, hotels, and other venues. This requires the ability to safely maneuver through a different city, state, and/or country. This also requires employees to be mindful of lawful, safety, and cultural differences at their destination.

Employee may be subject to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling for longer durations than their usual workday entails.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time Salary Exempt position.

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred. Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited university preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of work experience in a production environment & people management. More than 5 years of engineering experience with prior experience supervising production personnel in a manufacturing environment.
• Production Management: Experience in operational systems, resource scheduling, KPI management, and continuous improvement.
• Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills; ability to analyze data, resolve process issues and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, process-related standards, health and safety requirements, material science/metallurgy, aluminum and sensitive-metal welding processes; knowledge of induction principles (high-frequency welding and annealing) preferred.
• Knowledge of Six Sigma and LEAN manufacturing principles; experience with SolidWorks/modeling software preferred; AX Dynamics or SAP experience is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and multiple computer software systems.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to build effective internal and external partnerships.
• Ability to travel by automobile and airplane to customers, seminars and other business needs.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge/ experience in metal manufacturing or manufacturing, Welded Tubes
• Knowledge of six sigma and LEAN manufacturing principles.
• AX Dynamics or SAP experience a plus
