Job summary

Meta is seeking a Production Engineer Intern to own back-end services and contribute to core systems used by billions of users. You will write and review code, develop capacity plans, and debug complex problems in production environments.

We look for students enrolled in CS programs with UNIX/Linux experience and proficiency in at least one programming language, ready to work in a dynamic, large-scale infrastructure at Meta.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full-time degree program pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in computer science or related field.
• Experience in a UNIX-like OS (Linux, BSD, Solaris, etc.).
• Experience coding in at least one language.
• 1+ years with new development languages (Python, Hack/PHP, C++, Java, Rust, and GoLang).
• Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
• Intent to return to full-time degree program after completion of the internship.

Responsibilities

• Own back-end services which handle fleet management, front-end services such as WhatsApp / Instagram / Facebook / Meta Ads, infrastructure components that drive Meta's advances in AI, core services used by every team at Meta, large MySQL deployments, networking systems and more.
• Write and review code, develop documentation and capacity plans, and debug the hardest problems live on large-scale systems.
• Partner with other engineers; the code and systems you work on will be in production and used by billions of people.

Production Engineer Intern Responsibilities

• Own back-end services which handle fleet management, front-end services such as WhatsApp / Instagram / Facebook / Meta Ads, infrastructure components that drive Meta's advances in AI, core services which are used by every team at Meta, the world's largest MySQL deployments, networking systems and everything in between
• Write and review code, develop documentation and capacity plans, and debug the hardest problems, live, on some of the largest and most complex systems in the world
• Partner alongside the best engineers in the industry working on the coolest stuff around, the code and systems you work on will be in production and used by billions of people all around the world

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a full‑time, degree‑seeking program and in the process of obtaining a Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science or a related field
• Experience in a *nix (Linux, BSDs, Solaris, or another UNIX‑like OS) or Windows OS
• Experience coding in at least one language
• 1 or more years with new development languages (Python, Hack/PHP, C++, Java, Rust, and GoLang)
• Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
• Intent to return to full‑time degree program after completion of the internship

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals
• Knowledge of internet service architectures (such as load balancing, LAMP, CDN's)
