Job summary

Ashland LLC is seeking a Production Engineer at our Columbus, OH plant. This highly visible role reports to the Production Manager and provides technical support for 24/7 GMP operations producing APIs, intermediates, and specialty chemicals.

You will collaborate with R&D to scale chemistries, assist in capital projects, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining safety and quality standards. Expect ~10% travel and close cross-functional teamwork.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 1-5 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing setting.
  • A strong technical background in organic chemistry and unit operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for manufacturing personnel for process troubleshooting, safety, and quality at a GMP batch facility.
  • Collaborate with site and corporate R&D staff to scale new chemistries from lab to plant scale.
  • Support site engineering in the design and implementation of capital projects and new equipment.
  • Collect and analyze data from processes to inform batch quality and yield decisions.
  • Work cross-functionally with site quality, maintenance, and materials to meet production goals safely and timely.
  • Support Process Safety Management activities, including PHA, MOC, SOP updates, and process changes.
  • Assist Production Manager with ongoing continuous improvement efforts.
  • Travel about 10% to support site projects and training.

This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the manufacturing function. This position will report to the Production Manager.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide technical support for manufacturing personnel for process troubleshooting, safety, and quality at a 24/7 GMP batch facility producing APIs and intermediates, personal care products, and specialty chemicals
  • Work collaboratively with site and corporate R&D staff to scale new chemistries from lab scale to plant scale
  • Support site engineering in the design and implementation of capital projects and support new equipment coming on-line
  • Collect and analyze data from processes to help make decisions regarding batch quality and yield.
  • Work cross-functionally with site quality, maintenance, and materials departments to meet strategic production goals in a safe and timely manner
  • Support Process Safety Management efforts by participating in Process Hazard Analyses, submitting Management of Change requests, updating and improving operating procedures, and recommending and implementing process changes when appropriate
  • Support Production Manager and staff with ongoing continuous improvement efforts
  • Estimated travel of 10% to support site projects and gain on-the-job training as necessary
Qualifications

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 1-5 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing setting
  • A strong technical background in organic chemistry and unit operations
Preferred Skills

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

  • Previous experience working in a GMP and/or PSM facility
  • Six Sigma yellow or green belt certification with experience in experimental design and analysis
