Job summary

84 Lumber Company is seeking a Truss Builder to operate on an assembly line producing building material components in a non-climate controlled manufacturing environment. You will assemble wall panels, roof and floor trusses, place reinforcement plates, and ensure dimensional accuracy.

You will read blueprints, follow cut sheet layouts, and work 10-12 hour shifts with potential overtime, in a facility with exposure to noise, dust, and physical labor. Full-time benefits apply to associates.

• Operates press stations to place and press plates on lumber.
• Follows production list priorities to meet shift goals.
• Maintains machine and area cleanliness as required.

Job description

Under direct supervision the Truss Builder performs one or more jobs assignments on an assembly or sub-assembly line to produce building material components.

Essential Functions

• Assembles building material components such as wall panels, roof and floor trusses. Processes include insertion or positioning of materials, clamping, splicing, fitting parts and use of both hand and power tools, following supervisor's instructions and blueprint specifications.
• Places metal reinforcement plates over connecting joints and connects parts at joints, using a hammer.
• Verifies dimensions of precut parts and accuracy of assembly.
• Ensures that assembled items meet specific quality specifications; may propose process improvements in order to increase finished quality or efficiency of assembly processes.
• Places proper material into setup specified on cut sheet layout.
• Using assigned press stations, place and press plates on appropriate lumber by job.
• Follow production list by priority given by Assembler Lead to accomplish shift goals
• Maintain machine cleanup procedures and daily cleanup in area without exception.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain company professional standards.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a non-climate controlled manufacturing environment where individual is exposed to extremes of seasonal heat and cold as well as the potentially dangerous conditions of wood truss manufacturing. Work can be performed outdoors where individual is exposed to the elements. Individual is exposed the noise levels consistent with building (hammering) and the operation of large, commercial saws. Individual is exposed to the saw dust generated by commercial saws. This position may be exposed to vibrations, risk of electrical shock, airborne particles and toxic chemicals. Eye, ear, head, and hand protection is required depending on the operation being performed.

Physical Demands

Requires frequent sitting, standing, repeated lifting up to 80 pounds and reaching with arms and hands. Also, use of hands to grasp, handle, and feel. Frequent, stooping, bending, stretching. Requires manual dexterity and strength to use a manual hammer for long periods of time. Requires working under stressful or emergency conditions requiring high concentration and energy level.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Hours of work depends on hours of operations, 40+ hours per week. May require working irregular and/or extended hours.
