Whirley Industries, Inc. is seeking a Production Assistant to support the Decoration and Assembly teams. You will assist Team Leaders with setup, staffing, and ensuring throughput meets quality expectations in a safe environment.

You will help verify work orders, train Assemblers I and II, and contribute to meeting production goals while maintaining adherence to SQF and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Must understand and follow company policies and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and comprehend work instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Experience with assembly line processes and equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Team Leaders with goals, provide tools and environment for Assemblers I and III to succeed.
  • Staff lines and ensure parts are assembled and packed per specs.
  • Document downtime and assist in minimizing disruptions to production.
  • Maintain communication across shifts to identify and resolve issues.

JOB TITLE: Production Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Decoration and Assembly
REPORTS TO: Decoration and Assembly Team Leader
SUPERVISES: N/A
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

Supports the Decoration and Assembly Team Leader and Assembly Team Leader providing training and all other performance support, including compliance with all company polices, to Assembler I and II. Assist Team Leaders with the proper execution of all processes, procedures and test to quality expectations are met. Assist Team Leaders with proper setup of assembly lines (ergonomic and safety), correct staffing, and expected level of throughput. Assist Team Leaders in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment including ensuring zero workplace incidents by avoiding unsafe acts and conditions.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist Team Leaders with their responsibilities on goals and objectives and ensure Assemblers I and III have access to tools, knowledge, and necessary work environment to be successful with their responsibilities.

Production
  • Staffing lines according to the number of TeamMates needed.
  • Ensuring parts are being assembled and packed according to specifications and instructions.
  • Adjusting personnel and machine work assignments as conditions warrant, assigning TeamMates alternate work during machine downtime.
  • Communicating with previous shift Team Leaders, with a goal to understand the problems and situations that might be seen throughout the shift.
  • Investigating production problems, with a goal to minimize downtime and maximize the production of good quality parts.
  • Ensuring that all equipment is running as efficiently as possible. Documenting non-conforming conditions by completed an MRB (Material Review Board) form.
  • Maintains effective intra-and inter-departmental communications.
  • Review work orders and computer scans for accuracy in IQMS.
Quality
  • Ensures strict adherence to all quality procedures and standards and ultimately is responsible for assisting the Team Leaders with the consistent production of quality parts.
  • Cooperating with the Quality Department; enforcing and adhering to all quality procedures.
  • Qualifying TeamMates for regular production work by verifying they understand and can complete quality tasks by testing the TeamMates on quality procedures such as handle weld, spin weld, packing, and computer entry.
  • Performing random quality checks.
  • Analyzing and adjusting equipment as needed to verify that production meets quality specifications.
  • Cooperating in the investigation of customer complaints so that root causes can be determined and eliminated.
  • Verifying the accuracy of all paperwork and computer entries.
Safety
  • Responsible for assisting the Team Leaders in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment with zero workplace incidents due to unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
  • Enforcing safety policies and regulations.
  • Assisting the Team Leaders in investigating TeamMate incidents and near misses; unsafe acts are discussed promptly with appropriate discipline issued; necessary paperwork is completed.
  • Advising and cautioning TeamMates about potential problems and dangers; implementing changes that reduce / eliminate safety hazards.
  • Ensuring that all equipment utilized in the Plant is free of recognized hazard by performing weekly EHS audits and Hazard Hunts.
  • Ensuring that the equipment is operating in accordance with manufacture’s recommendations, and all TeamMates have been trained in the safe and proper use of the equipment.
  • Addressing corrective actions in a timely fashion and not repeating in subsequent monthly inspections.
  • Making housekeeping a day-to-day practice by ensuring that the guidelines for Safe Quality Foods (SQF) are followed as a matter of routine.
  • Ensuring that tools and other equipment are stored properly.
Other Duties
  • Perform special tasks as directed by the Team Leaders.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Three or more years’ experience preferred in a cellular or process flow production environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to verbally communicate with supervision.
  • Must be capable of learning multiple tasks.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written skills and leadership qualities including interpersonal and problem solving.
  • Understanding of basic quality tools.
  • Stays informed on quality news and industry trends.
  • Good manual dexterity and color discrimination.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods of standing or sitting on a hard surface.
  • Lifting of 50 pounds maximum.
  • Frequent lifting / carrying up to 25 pounds.
  • Bending, squatting, climbing ladders, kneeling, reaching above shoulders, pushing and pulling.
