Job summary

SURTECO is seeking a Production Assistant in Monroe, NC to support Multistage and Second Operator duties in our laminates and films manufacturing facility. You will help ensure quality, maintain presses, assist with setup and cleaning, and train other Production Assistants while covering for absences.

This is a 2nd shift role (3:00 pm – 11:00 pm) with a shift differential. Candidates should have basic mechanical skills, be able to lift up to 50 lbs, and be willing to learn SAP ERP processes and

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-year technical degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and participate in SH&E program.
• Assist Multistage Operator and Second Operator with press duties.
• Maintain cleanliness of press and assigned areas.
• Label and dispose hazardous waste properly.
• Prepare for wash-up and setup on presses.
• Coordinate with ink production to get ink to the proper stage.
• Check viscosities and ink levels; retrieve inks as needed.
• Label, package, and handle rolls during production.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of jobs.
• Learn Second Operator duties and cover absences.
• Overtime/off-shifts as needed.
• Learn solvent dispense system.
• Utilize SAP ERP system.

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about joining a team in the manufacturing of high quality laminates and films used in a variety of applications including on cabinetry in kitchen and bath applications, countertops and paneling in recreational vehicles and in the enhancement of interior retail spaces.

The Production Assistant assists the Multistage Operator and Second Operator operate the multi-stage presses by ensuring product meets quality standards and is run efficiently and troubleshooting any production problems. This position will also assist in plantwide general duties as required. Also, the Production Assistant is responsible for training other Production Assistants and learning Multistage Operator and Second Operator responsibilities and cover for Second Operator’s absence.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules & Actively participate in Safety, Health, and Environment program
• Take direction from and assist Multistage Operator and Second Operator with all duties related to operation of press
• Responsible for cleanliness of press and other areas as assigned by Supervisor
• Empty rag cans, solid and liquid hazardous containers, and empty used blades. Label Hazardous waste cans properly
• Prepare for wash-up by having all necessary supplies ready for each stage, wash-up and set-up on all presses
• Prepare materials for upcoming job on area of assignment. Coordinate with ink production suppliers to get ink to proper stage
• Check and ensure viscosities and ink levels. Bring out inks as needed
• Take out turns for every roll during production run, label and package as required
• Stack pallets and presses with needed supplies
• Assist with set-up and breakdown of job
• Learn Second Operator duties and fill in during absence
• Available for Overtime/off shifts as needed
• Learn solvent dispense system
• Utilize SAP ERP system

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• General Mechanical Knowledge
• Farnsworth-Munsell color test score of Average Discrimination or above
• Basic Computer Skills
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills to all levels of management
• Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to create and interpret bar charts/graphs
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure, take precise measurements, and ensure proper customer specs
• Successfully complete the training matrix
• Forklift License (training and certification provided by SURTECO)
• Exceptionally good and consistent color matching ability

Desired Qualifications

• Complete Forklift Certification if required
• 2-year technical degree
• Previous Printing Experience

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds as needed
• Must be medically qualified to use respiratory protection for wash ups
• Frequently positions self to use/maintain personal protective equipment

  Travel Requirements

  Time spent away from home or typical office location.
