Job summary

Smiths Interconnect is seeking an assembly technician to perform the assembly of products in the Production area using specialized machines. You will follow product process plans, inspect components, and ensure quality with tight tolerances and precise hand soldering as needed.

The role requires high manual dexterity, ability to read engineering prints, interpret SPC processes, and maintain production schedules to meet shipping deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Above-average manual dexterity for small parts work.
  • Good eye/hand coordination and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble products using established processes and setups.
  • Follow product process plans and engineering prints.
  • Support assembly of electronic, electro-mechanical, or mechanical systems.
  • Perform wiring, component installation, hand soldering, cable harnessing, welding and fitting.
  • Test and set up production machines per drawings.
  • Identify non-conforming parts and maintain quality records.
  • Maintain production schedules to meet customer requirements.

Job Description
Job Purpose:

Performs assembly of all products within the Production area using specialized assembly machines.

Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of established SPC processes for the product being produced
  • Interprets and performs functions per product process plans and complex engineering prints
  • Performs a wide variety of assembly/support on electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical or measurement systems.
  • Determines and/or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering, cable harnessing, welding and fitting on assembly units.
  • Test and production machine setups performed while adhering to tolerancing stated in component/assembly drawings.
  • Be able to demonstrate above average manual dexterity and the ability to work with very small parts
  • Testing/R&D of Company and competitor's products and components
  • Separates non-conforming product from conforming product.
  • Knowledge of quality system documentation and the interrelation of the complete quality system.
  • Meets the required rate of production, over 80%, for the product being produced.
  • May be responsible for closing jobs and pulling production schedule for the team
  • Requisitions and communicates maintenance needs for special set-up and complicated machine adjustments.
  • Compliance and participation in all Smiths Connectors EHS programs, policies, procedures and training requirements.

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must have basic math skills
  • Ability to interpret and perform assembly functions
  • Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions
  • above average manual dexterity and the ability to work with very small parts
  • Ability to work with others
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination
  • Ability to use microscopes comparator and other measuring devices
Planning and Decision Making:
  • Maintain work schedules that will meet customer requirements.
  • Adapt to daily changes in production and meet shipping schedules.
  • Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination.
