Job description

Overview: The Production Area Manager provides leadership and strategic direction for the manufacturing area, ensures continuous and efficient production in desired quantity and quality, and interfaces with business leadership and supply chain for coordination of schedules and understanding customer needs. This is a critical role that manages quality, cost, resources and schedules, and collaborates with site leadership to effectively allocate site resources and set expectations for adherence to policies and procedures and safety standards.

Productivity
  • Align with Site Strategic Plan and provide strategic leadership and direction for the area.
  • Review work throughout area to ensure priorities and target dates are met.
  • Interface with other site leaders on key matters related to the area.
  • Facilitate Visual Performance Management activities, including problem solving.
  • Foster Autonomous Maintenance and 5S philosophy within the area.
  • Maintain adequate staff for effective execution of activities and timely response to fluctuating workloads within the area.
  • Provide leadership for improvement programs and asset productivity best practices across the area with the use of continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Promote commitment and ownership to Operational Excellence by engaging team members to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, eliminate waste and remove barriers.
Delivery
  • Develop, integrate and execute the area's supply strategy and supply plan through the efficient use of materials, equipment, and employees.
  • Provide input to the 3-5-year Site Strategic Plan to support the business and corporate strategy.
  • Develop and establish Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and metrics for the area.
  • Develop short to mid-term area plans, including improvement activities, organize team members to execute the plans, and ensure resource availability.
  • Develop, communicate and execute business objectives for the area.
  • Define priorities and track progress across the area.
  • Establish an effective two-way communication process and publish performance goals, metrics and outcomes to meet customer needs.

  • Establish management processes to advance Core Values and ensure consistency across the area.
  • Work with the site leadership team to establish a standard approach to incident reporting and investigation.

  • Be responsible for the implementation of management processes and best practices to achieve excellence in quality and customer service within the area.
  • Facilitate customer interactions and visits.
  • Lead investigation of quality non-conformances and determine corrective action.
Cost
  • Develop and execute plans to meet the annual P&CO commitments for the area.
  • Review financial activity reports and statements to determine progress in attaining area's costs (fixed & plant related variable) and capital objectives.
Morale
  • Organize and manage staffing levels to ensure safe, fair, and adequate support.
  • Establish clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and address performance issues.
  • Provide development, coaching and mentoring on appropriate mindsets and behaviors.
  • Establish and guide performance partnership standards, including progressive discipline.
  • Lead continuous learning and development efforts to ensure team members are energized and performing at peak levels.
  • Encourage employee's engagement and foster empowerment and ownership through leader standard work and line walks.
  • Award and recognize individuals and/or teams and celebrate area's accomplishments.
  • Lead the employee hiring and selection processes for their unit.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical).
  • High-hazard process experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly understand technology and lead/support change.
  • Must be able to manage a diverse workload.
  • Proven commitment to advancing core values.
