Job summary

Graphic Packaging International is seeking an entry-level Production Apprentice - Paper at our Texarkana mill in Texas. This role operates, assists and supports manufacturing operations across the mill, handling high-speed processes and mobile equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, the ability to follow written plans, basic math/reading/writing skills, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
  • Willingness to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule including holidays and overtime.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following procedures and regulations.
  • Comply with all safety and environmental practices.
  • Support safe and efficient operation of Mill equipment.
  • Perform materials movement, labeling, packaging, and handling of scrap/broke materials.
  • Perform cleaning and housekeeping tasks throughout the Mill area.
  • Operate and monitor mill machines, equipment, valves, and processes.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to adjust and start/stop equipment.
  • Communicate with Unit Operator, Maintenance, and Supervisor to adjust operations as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Role Summary

TheProduction Apprentice - Paper is an entry level, production position in our Texarkana, TX Mill. This role operates, assists, and supports the manufacturing operations throughout the Mill. This involves working with high speed, continuous process equipment and mobile equipment operation in a safe and efficient manner.

Job Accountabilities

  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Maintain strict compliance with all Company safety and environmental practices
  • Responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation Mill equipment
  • Perform various operations functions, such as materials movement, labeling and packaging, collecting, and removing broke/scrap materials,
  • Performing cleaning and housekeeping tasks throughout Mill area(s)
  • Operating and monitor mill machines, equipment, valves, and processes.
  • Employ standard operating procedures to adjust, maintain, start, stop production equipment
  • Communicates with the Unit Operator, Maintenance, and Supervisor to make field adjustments in response to changing process conditions to address or prevent issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Characteristics

  • High School Diploma or GED/equivalent must be verified
  • Ability to follow written plans and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic math, reading, and writing skills
  • Ability toperform typical physical aspects of the job, including standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), sitting, bending, and reaching
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and wear self-contained breathing apparatus when required
  • Able to work a twelve (12) hour rotating shift schedule, holidays, weekends,and overtime
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background screening and drug screen

Desired Characteristics

  • Two (2) years of experience in industrial or manufacturing environment
  • Experience working in a Pulp/Paper Mill or with converting equipment
  • Experience in operating forklift and/or milling equipment
