Job summary

Georgia Pacific is hiring a Product Unit Operator to operate and maintain production machines, meeting or exceeding the mill’s production and quality goals. The role requires working in a hot, cold, humid, noisy industrial environment with dust, oil, grease, chemicals, and other substances.

The Product Unit Operator will work twelve‑hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with required overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Process Operations or Electrical/Instrumentation, or two years+ experience in relevant environments.
  • Experience using a computer, tablet, or smart device.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment within the scope of operations for the Pulp Machine.
  • Progress through multiple skill levels to develop knowledge of all operating systems in the Pulp Machine.
  • Perform equipment cleanup and basic operator maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor process variables to maintain efficient Pulp Machine operations and meet department quality, cost, and production goals.
  • Work twelve‑hour rotating shifts and serve as a member of the Fire and Rescue Team if assigned.
  • Adhere strictly to safety rules and regulations, wearing required safety equipment.
  • Attend and complete mandatory and ongoing training.
  • Perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, pushing, and/or pulling.

Product Unit Operator, Perdue Hill, AL (ARC)

Georgia Pacific is hiring a Product Unit Operator to operate and maintain production machines, meeting or exceeding the mill’s production and quality goals. The role requires working in a hot, cold, humid, noisy industrial environment with dust, oil, grease, chemicals, and other substances.

The Product Unit Operator will work twelve‑hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with required overtime as needed. The rotation schedule is 4 days on, 7 days off; 4 nights on, 3 days off; 3 days on, 1 day off; 3 nights on, 3 days off. The shift times are 5:00 am to 5:00 pm for days and 5:00 pm to 5:00 am for nights. Pay is $24.61 per hour.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Process Operations or Electrical/Instrumentation, or two years or more of experience in farming, carpentry, construction, warehouse, military, production, or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience using a computer, tablet, or smart device.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pulp or paper machine experience.
  • Experience completing safe work permits (hot work, line breaking) and executing lockout activities (isolation, draining, de‑energizing).
  • Industrial lift truck certification.
  • Electrical or mechanical maintenance experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Process Operations or Engineering.
