Position Summary

The Product Testing Engineer supports cross-functional technical teams – including Certifications and Approvals, Product Development, and Technical Services – by planning, coordinating, and executing product testing activities. This role involves management of test plans from concept through completion, determining applicable code requirements and analysis, ensuring proper test execution, and providing feedback to improve product performance and compliance.

Essential Functions
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute product test plans in collaboration with internal teams, third‑party labs, and certification agencies.
  • Communicate with external testing facilities to secure proposals, design and execute test plans, and finalize certification listings in compliance with relevant standards.
  • Prepare and review test specimen drawings, mockup plans, and material bills required for test construction.
  • Generate and track production orders for test materials, ensuring timely delivery with support from Project Managers and Operations teams.
  • Oversee test setup and execution, including hands‑on assistance with assembly preparation, installation, and supervision at internal and external test labs.
  • Document product parameters, test configurations, and observed performance behaviors; prepare internal reports to support data analysis and compliance tracking.
  • Analyze test results, identify root causes of performance issues, and provide actionable feedback to cross‑functional teams to improve product design and performance.
  • Assist the Certifications team with maintaining compliance tools such as the Project Information Management (PIM) and Product Compliance Register (PCR) systems.
  • Ensure product compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and internal claims.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Development and Certifications teams to provide technical support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Comply with all safety guidelines and company policies including product compliance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong technical understanding of design concepts, building codes, testing standards, and certification processes.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills with a track record of driving technical and innovative solutions effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent project management and prioritization skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Clear and professional communication skills for interacting with internal teams, vendors, test labs, and certification agencies.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, submittals, technical and contract documents, building codes, test standards.
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, dependable, and self‑motivated.
  • Hands‑on experience with construction tools commonly found in the construction field such as measuring tapes, power drills, electric saws, grinders, shears, etc.
  • Ability to read, write, type, and verbally communicate effectively in English.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with CAD tools such as AutoCAD or Inventor is a plus
  • Excellent time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects at once and be able to prioritize by importance, schedule and necessity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite.
  • $70,000 - $90,000 based on experience
  • This position is bonus eligible
Physical Requirements
  • Travel within the U.S. and Canada is required, including visits to other AWIP facilities, test laboratories, and vendor sites.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% (by car, plane or other methods of transportation)
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Ability to install and assist in the installation of AWIP products.
  • Comfortable working in non‑climate‑controlled environments, including exposure to extreme temperatures and outdoor conditions at times.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of reliability, dependability, motivation, and a commitment to success.
  • Must be available to work standard 8‑hour days, with flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet deadlines or to meet the demands of test lab schedules.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; must be capable of bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, and performing other physical activities.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must have visual acuity, discernment of color and texture, and finger dexterity.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise environments, chemicals used in the process, and extreme temperatures. The facility is an industrial manufacturing plant.
