Job summary

CommScope Data Center Solutions in Shakopee, Minnesota, is seeking a motivated engineering professional to provide product testing services for new product development and cost reductions within a collaborative lab environment.

You will work with design engineering, operations, and project management to develop test procedures, analyze results, and document findings. Travel to international locations may be required as projects evolve.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2-5 years of related experience.
  • Solid communication and fluent English.
  • Strong computer skills, programming experience preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with good planning and teamwork.
  • Ability to deliver technical improvements to existing products/processes/services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide product testing services for new product development, cost reductions, and manufacturing transfers.
  • Develop test procedures and schedules; create fixtures and test software as needed.
  • Document test results and write reports; review design changes for conformance.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, project management, operations, and purchasing.
  • Support lab documentation and maintain equipment; travel to international locations if needed.

General Summary

This position is responsible for working with project teams to provide product testing services.

Duties & Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position will be to provide product testing services for new product development, product cost reductions, manufacturing plant transfers and other types of projects that require testing services. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

Project Team
  • Participate in multiple project team efforts including collaboration with other functions such as design engineering, project management, operations, purchasing and material planning.
  • Assist in documentation of product requirements based on industry standards.
  • Develop product evaluation test procedures and schedules.
  • If necessary, develop test fixtures and test software.
  • If necessary, specify and acquire new test equipment.
  • Perform measurement systems analysis.
  • Submit lab requests, schedule testing resources and provide technical support and work direction to technicians performing tests.
  • Provide regular feedback to product development teams on progress and results of testing.
  • Write test reports documenting the results of testing.
  • Review and approve product design and engineering change documentation for conformance to company, customer, agency and industry specifications and standards.
  • Ability to deliver technical improvements to existing products/processes/services where feasible resulting in cost reductions or quality improvement.
Department
  • Competency/experience with corporate, business unit and lab quality management system documentation.
  • Competency/experience with relevant industry standards for fiber optic products
  • Competency/experience with the range of lab test equipment or equivalent.
  • Competency/experience with fiber optic products and technical principals or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge/experience with engineering tools such as LEAN and/or 6-sigma, DMAIC or other improvement process, DoE, FMEA, MSA, uncertainty.
  • Possibility for travel potentially to international locations.
  • Position has growth potential per engineering technical ladder with five additional engineering titles each with increasing responsibilities.
  • Collaboration with current lab staff which includes other test engineers and technicians in team-oriented environment.
  • Familiarity with a range of fiber optic products or equivalent.
  • Maintenance and creation of lab documentation.

Required Qualifications for Consideration
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related
  • 2-5 years experience in related area
  • Solid communication skills including excellent writing skills and fluency in English.
  • Strong computer skills preferably with programming experience.
  • Skilled at planning and ability to pay attention to details.
  • Ability to effectively work within a team environment.
  • Ability to deliver technical improvements to existing products/processes/services.
Strongly Desired Skills/Experience:
  • Experience with design/test of fiber optic products per international and domestic industry standards.
  • Programming experience.

Our salary ranges consider a wide variety of factors, including but not limited to benchmarking by independent third-party consultants, skill sets, years of experience, training, education, geography, and other business needs. Depending on experience, the range can be higher for candidates with exceptional experience and a demonstrated history of successful performance. The expected salary range for this position is $76,000-95,000 based on hired level and experience. The candidate will be rewarded with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, life and accidental death insurance, a 401(k) plan, and participation in the Company’s Incentive Plan.
