Job summary

Genentech’s Digital Sciences internship in South San Francisco offers a 12-week, full-time program in Pharmaceutical Technical Development (PTDU). You will work on digital projects, including full-stack software and data science models that enable insights for drug development.

Strong candidates are pursuing a bachelor’s degree (or recently graduated within 2 years) with experience in Python, R, Flask, Django, or React.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree at the time of application (having completed at least 2 years of the degree program) or must have attained a bachelor's degree within 2 years and not be enrolled in graduate school.
• Relevant coding/computer science experience in a research lab or biotech setting is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Leverage programming, machine learning, and AI skills to contribute to digital projects across PTD, including full-stack apps and data-science models.
• Develop interactive tools and information databases, aiding insights for drug development and faster delivery of medicines.
• Examples include web-based antibody visualization, lipid modeling simulations, and in-silico protein stability studies.

Department Summary

Pharmaceutical Technical Development (PTDU) develops, delivers, and supports robust, cost-effective production methods and technologies for innovative therapeutics to meet the needs of Genentech’s Research, Development, Commercial, and Product Operations groups. The group has long been recognized as a world leader in developing large-scale manufacturing processes, sophisticated analytical methods, and effective drug delivery systems.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site

Program Highlights

• Intensive 12-week, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Key Responsibilities

As a Digital Sciences intern, you can expect to leverage your programming, machine learning, and AI skills to contribute to digital projects, such as full-stack software applications and data science models, that will make an impact across the entire PTD organization. These projects are often aimed to enable greater insights from data, more innovative drug development, and faster delivery of medicines to patients. Previous internship projects have included but are not limited to:

• Developing an interactive, web-based tool that visualizes an antibody sequence and highlights notable characteristics of its constituent residues
• Synthetic lipid modeling with in-silico simulations
• Creation and implementation of information databases and electronic laboratory notebook schemas
• In-silico protein stability studies

Who You Are

Education:

• Must be pursuing a bachelor's degree at the time of application (having completed at least 2 years of the degree program)
• OR
• Must have attained a bachelor's degree within 2 years of your application date and must not be currently enrolled in a graduate program
• Relevant work experience with coding/computer science (e.g. Python, R, Flask, Django, React, etc.) in a research lab or biotechnology industry setting is desirable but not required.
• Must be able to work 40 hours/week for the duration of the 12 week internship.

Required majors:

• Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Biophysics, or related disciplines.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $28.00 - $34.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
