Job summary

PNC is seeking a Product Owner III for Developer Tools in Pittsburgh. You will lead an enterprise Developer Tools organization including IDEs, plugins, and platforms, balancing developer experience with enterprise standards, security, and governance.

You’ll drive tool evaluation, onboarding, upgrades, and vendor management while partnering with Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, Security, and Developer Experience teams.

Qualifications

As a Product Owner III within PNC's Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Product Owner III - Developer Tools

We are seeking a technical Product Owner to lead an enterprise Developer Tools organization responsible for IDEs, plugins, extensions, developer platforms, and related tooling used across the software development lifecycle. The role will lead a team of technologists and own the strategy, roadmap, lifecycle management, support model, and continuous improvement of developer tools that enable engineers to build software efficiently and securely.

The successful candidate will act as the voice of the developer, balancing developer experience, enterprise standards, security, governance, and operational excellence. This leader will drive tool evaluation, onboarding, upgrades, support, decommissioning, vendor management, and developer enablement while partnering closely with Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, Security, and Developer Experience teams.

Desired Experience & Skills
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Engineering Manager, or similar technology leadership role.
  • Experience leading technical teams and managing complex cross-functional initiatives.
  • Software engineering or development background with strong understanding of developer workflows.
  • Experience with developer tools such as IntelliJ, VS Code, Visual Studio, PyCharm, GitHub, Docker, Postman, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to define product strategy, roadmaps, priorities, and measurable outcomes.
  • Experience managing tool lifecycles including onboarding, upgrades, patching, end-of-life, and decommissioning.
  • Knowledge of developer experience (DX), internal developer platforms, self-service tooling, and platform engineering concepts.
  • Familiarity with software governance, open-source compliance, licensing, security, and risk management.
  • Experience with Agile delivery practices and backlog management tools such as JIRA.
  • Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience using operational, adoption, and productivity metrics to drive decisions.
  • Passion for improving developer productivity, reducing friction, and delivering a world-class developer experience.

Job Description
  • Owns the vision and definition of the product. Serves as the voice of the Customer. Ensures the Scrum Team(s) effort is concentrated on the right priorities based on business value.
  • Defines and conveys the vision to the team(s) in order to address client requirements to ensure a successful product for business objectives.
  • Accountable for the creation of and the integrity of the product backlog. Prioritizes and leads grooming of the product backlog.
  • Works closely with the Scrum Master(s) and development team(s), to ensure the right items are focused on during the development process. Primary point of contact for questions from the team(s) and is empowered to make decisions.
