Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Product Owner/Project Manager to lead agile software initiatives within the Technology, Digital and Data organization in Dallas, TX.

You will own the product backlog, align stakeholders, and drive on-time delivery of complex data and AI-enabled projects for global sites. You will collaborate with Scrum teams and the Technical Product Management group, prioritizing work based on business value, and guiding the team through sprint planning and execution.

Qualifications

  • Data ingestion, data hauling/connectivity, and data ontology knowledge.
  • Experience with data quality frameworks and digital thread/traceability.
  • 5+ years of direct product ownership with software teams in an agile environment.
  • Azure DevOps experience is REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project planning and execution with the Scrum Team and Technical Product Management.
  • Create and prioritize the Product Backlog based on business value.
  • Ensure on-time, within-budget delivery of projects and sprint goals.
  • Communicate backlog priorities to the team and make key product decisions.

What You Will Do:

This individual will be responsible for both project management and product ownership. As a Product Owner you will be accountable for ensuring successful completion of projects, on-time, within budget, and error-free. The principal responsibility of the Project Manager is to manage the planning and execution of project team members. As the Product Owner you will work intimately with the Scrum Team and Technical Product Management team with the primary task of creating and managing the Product Backlog and to ensure everyone knows the priorities and assisting the scrum team to meet the objectives of each sprint. Incumbent will support various project teams and obtain/provide a variety of information starting at concept stage and continuing through prototype, pilot, implementation and follow-up stages of various projects Develop and produce project management schedules. Use professional project management tools and techniques to manage reporting, tracking charts, checklist, and project scheduling software and to delegate appropriately. Manage change and take active leadership in timely decision making. Responsible for creating, maintaining and prioritizing the Product Backlog according to business value for the life of the project. Communicate Product Backlog priorities to the team. Act as the key decision-maker regarding what features the product will have. Responsible for the vision of what is to be built, and conveying that vision to the team.

What You Will Have:

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Organizational Leadership: Knowledge of leadership concepts and ability to use strategies and skills to enlist others in setting, embracing and achieving objectives. Program Management: Knowledge of the policies and techniques to manage a set of related projects within a program; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control the set of projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve program objectives. Change Control: Knowledge of the processes and procedures by which a change is identified, evaluated, approved, monitored and documented; Ability to manage changes in the production environment and processes effectively Problem Management: Knowledge of the processes involved in problem control, error control and the production of management information or computer hardware; ability to identify the root cause of problems in a timely and accurate manner and bring them to a successful resolution.

Top Candidates Will Have:

Knowledge of data ingestion, data hauling/connectivity, data ontology, annotation architecture, data quality framework, data lifecycle and storage, digital thread/traceablility. Typical candidates will have 5+ years of direct product ownership experience working with software engineering teams in an agile environment Extensive experience using Azure DevOps is REQUIRED PMP certification (Nice to Have) Certified Scrum Master (CSM) desired Knowledge of Confluence desired Knowledge of Power BI is desired Additional Details: This position requires the candidate to be based in Dallas, TX Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position. Visa sponsorship is NOT available with this position. Summary Pay Range: $128,470.00 - $192,710.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
