Product Owner – DevOps (Durham)

Broadcom’s Mainframe Software Division (MSD) is committed to addressing the fundamental needs of our customers by continuously evolving our solutions. We are seeking a Product Owner to join our DevOps team in Durham. In this role, you will collaborate with the R&D team to develop and bring to market new solution components in the field of AI‑Powered Application Understanding and Impact Analysis. As a foundational pillar of our Product team, you will maintain a meticulously organized backlog, execute regular refinement sessions, and drive cross‑functional collaboration within the team’s leadership.

Core Responsibilities
  • Work closely with R&D development teams to maximise the value delivered to customers.
  • Understand and operate the Enterprise backlog model with Epics, Capabilities, Features, and Stories.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish, prioritise, and sequence backlog items based on defined strategies, events, and dependencies.
  • Ensure common understanding of backlog items, acceptance criteria, and definition of done with R&D scrum teams.
  • Coordinate with other Product Owners and cross‑functional roles throughout development and delivery.
  • Resolve complex projects, issues, and challenges independently.
  • Maintain a prioritised, transparent, and straightforward backlog aligned with product strategy.
  • Refine backlog items with R&D teams to provide sufficient detail for current and next iterations.
  • Communicate cross‑team dependencies, risks, and mitigation to management and peers.
  • Lead projects requiring coordination with other functions or teams and guide less experienced team members.
  • Engage with customers, observe users, and build relationships to gather feedback.
  • Manage support cases escalated to development and lead them to completion.
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager on product roadmap, strategy, and execution.
  • Present at industry conferences and showcase product value to stakeholders.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 6+ years.
  • Proven Agile Product Ownership experience with backlog grooming and translation of roadmap items into actionable user stories.
  • Strategic execution ability to break down complex technical requirements into concrete outcomes with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Leadership experience influencing cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
  • Expert stakeholder management, including customers, executive leadership, and engineering.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate the rationale behind product decisions.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
  • Understanding of mainframe application ecosystem (Enterprise COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, Endevor).
  • Experience with modern developer interfaces such as VS Code extensions, CLI tools, and CI/CD pipeline integrations.
  • Knowledge of GitHub, mainframe SCMs (Endevor), and automated deployment pipelines.
  • Passion and knowledge of AI/LLMs in corporate environments, including Model Context Protocols (MCPs).
Compensation&Benefits
  • Annual base salary range: $104,100–$166,500.
  • Eligible for discretionary annual bonus and equity awards.
