Northwestern Mutual seeks a Product Manager III to own field-data and data platform workstreams, shaping the roadmap and delivery outcomes for platform migration, data modernization, governance, and operational capabilities.
You will translate needs into features, write user stories with acceptance criteria, and coordinate with engineering, data, security, and business stakeholders to move cross-team work forward while maintaining delivery health and quality.
Build the tools and experiences that empower our advisors and help our clients achieve those dreams. Work with a talented team of engineers, designers, data scientists and financial experts to analyze product features, inform, and initiate product vision to enable clients to achieve financial security. This Product Manager III role owns field-data product areas that support stable, trusted, and modern data and analytics capabilities. The role leads product strategy, roadmap prioritization, backlog health, stakeholder alignment, requirements definition, and delivery coordination across platform modernization, data platform migration, data governance, security and audit remediation, and data consumer enablement. Success in this role requires a product manager who can partner across business, engineering, data, security, and platform teams; turn ambiguous modernization and operational needs into clear product outcomes; prepare work for upcoming planning cycles; and advance goals tied to data transparency, trusted data products, delivery productivity, quality, and field-data modernization.
Own product direction for field-data and data platform workstreams, aligning product vision, roadmap priorities, and delivery outcomes to platform readiness, data-product maturity, and modernization goals. Develop and maintain product roadmaps for platform migration, data modernization, governance, and operational capabilities, using business value, delivery commitments, dependencies, and risks to guide sequencing. Translate modernization, governance, security, data quality, and consumer enablement needs into clear features, user stories, acceptance criteria, test expectations, and planning-ready backlog items. Partner across engineering, data platform, architecture, security, audit, reporting, and business stakeholder groups to clarify scope, resolve dependencies, communicate tradeoffs, and move cross-team work forward. Maintain healthy delivery execution by prioritizing the backlog, preparing work for upcoming planning cycles and sprints, tracking risks and blockers, and ensuring commitments are visible, realistic, and aligned to business outcomes. Support operational stability and quality by partnering with teams on testing readiness, monitoring, defect prevention, vulnerability remediation, and audit-related follow-through. Use data, platform metrics, stakeholder feedback, and delivery health indicators to identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, standardization, and better data consumer experiences. Facilitate agile ceremonies, roadmap reviews, dependency discussions, and status communications so business and technology partners understand progress, decisions, risks, and next steps.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in product management, business analysis, data platforms, analytics, technology delivery, or a related field. 2-4 years of experience in product management, product ownership, business analysis, or technology delivery, preferably supporting data, analytics, reporting, platform, or modernization initiatives. Experience owning or contributing to product roadmaps for data, analytics, platform, or modernization workstreams, translating business and technical needs into clear product outcomes and priorities. Demonstrated experience with backlog management, feature definition, story writing, acceptance criteria, prioritization, and planning readiness. Strong cross-functional communication and coordination skills, with the ability to manage dependencies, delivery risks, blockers, and tradeoffs across product, engineering, data, architecture, security, audit, reporting, and business stakeholder groups. Ability to operate through ambiguity, analyze complex problems, and simplify technical work into practical product decisions and next steps that balance business value, technical feasibility, and delivery capacity. Working knowledge of agile delivery practices, quarterly planning, stakeholder-facing roadmap and status communication, escalation messaging, data quality, data governance, operational stability, and audit remediation. Familiarity with data and analytics ecosystems such as Databricks, Data Mesh, data catalogs, BI and reporting tools, platform migration patterns, operational monitoring, or financial services data domains.
