Job summary

AfterQuery in San Francisco is hiring a product-focused engineer who will own core infrastructure and product areas from discovery to launch. You’ll partner with engineering and operators to turn user needs into concrete requirements while shipping impactful features at pace.

You’ll shape platform decisions with data-driven priorities, balance quick wins with long-term scalability, and influence the growth of a founding team backed by strong investors.

Qualifications

• Strong technical fluency with background in software engineering, ML, or data preferred.
• High ownership and ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments.
• Excellent product judgment and ability to translate user requests into clear priorities.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with engineers, operators, and internal users to understand workflows and pain points.
• Identify high-leverage product and infrastructure problems across the company.
• Turn ambiguous problems into clear product direction and technical requirements.
• Partner with Engineering to ship products and systems quickly.
• Balance immediate business needs with long-term scalability and maintainability.
• Own product areas end-to-end from discovery through launch and iteration.
• Use data, user feedback and business context to prioritize what we build.
• Help standardize workflows as AfterQuery scales.

Required Qualifications

• Strong technical fluency; prior experience in software engineering, ML, or data is a strong plus
• High ownership and ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments
• Strong product judgment and ability to identify the underlying problem behind user requests
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across technical and operational teams
• Bias toward action and comfort moving quickly with incomplete information
• Strong user empathy and willingness to spend significant time understanding how people actually work
• Ability to synthesize fragmented feedback into clear priorities and product direction
