Job description

About Quilt

Quilt's mission is to move humanity off of fossil fuels in the home. 20% of US global warming emissions come from homes (that's more than cars!). Started by a team of industry veterans from Google, Apple, Nest, and Tesla, Quilt is a technology company focused on improving the energy systems, health, and comfort of buildings. Along the way, we built the first new major HVAC manufacturer in over 100 years. Our systems today combine the most efficient heat pumps on the market with modern artificial intelligence — including occupancy detection, over-the-air updates, real-time energy optimization, and remote monitoring — to deliver a home climate experience that's not just sustainable, but 10x better than what it replaces. We've raised over $63M from Energy Impact Partners, Galvanize Climate Solutions, Lowercarbon Capital, Gradient Ventures, and other great investors.

The Role

Quilt is a product company at our core – we hold high standards for product thinking & execution, focus on the fundamentals, and apply it to everything we do. The fundamentals we look for are customer-obsession, design thinking, great communication skills, and a high standard for quality, paired with the ability to drive the pragmatic tradeoffs required to ship with speed. Great PMs create clarity. They ensure everyone knows what is important and why, what isn’t, what success looks like, how everything connects to the bigger picture, and takes responsibility for an excellent outcome. PMs at Quilt are generalists. We organize work by project and outcome, not org or surface area. You will be expected to be able to drive any kind of product development at Quilt, from integrated intelligent hardware-software products like our flagship heat pump SKUs, to AI products and data infrastructure, to consumer-facing software features, to partner-facing enterprise-class tooling. Over time you will have exposure to all these classes of products and more. At Quilt, Physical AI isn’t a buzzword, it very accurately describes what we do. We add intelligence to the physical homes we all live in and the physical trades that service them.

You will be one of Quilt’s first product managers and report directly to Bill Kee, Quilt co‑founder and Chief Product Officer. You will also work closely with Paul Lambert, Quilt co‑founder and CEO. We think this is one of the most interesting PM jobs anywhere. Very few places let you PM across both an industry‑leading physical product and the intelligence platform that defines it, with significant autonomy, scope, and close founder collaboration.

What You’ll Work On

Projects follow business priorities and have considerable breadth, as you would expect from our generalist model. To make it concrete, here are some examples:

  • New hardware introductions . Taking Quilt flagship hardware-software products from requirements through launch, working with mechanical, electrical, and thermal engineers, manufacturing, and our B2B2C go‑to‑market channel.
  • Energy Intelligence: comfort, efficiency, and grid‑services capabilities that turn a fleet of connected heat pumps into something no legacy manufacturer can match .
  • The homeowner experience: From new energy intelligence features built across the Quilt Dial and app, to smart home integration, these are the moments that make people love their home climate system.
  • Partner‑facing tools: The technology platform our HVAC contractor partners use to sell, design, install, and support Quilt systems. This is a super rich area to modernize the trades and build deep competitive advantage through our channel.
Who You Are

You’ve taken technology products successfully from zero to one . You’ve worked with engineers – either software, hardware or both – to go from an idea to a real, shipping product or significant feature with real impact. Broadly and deeply curious and quick to learn.

You love learning and are genuinely interested in a wide breadth of business, product, and engineering challenges. You’re as excited to talk about sales and growth strategies, as UX design, as software development, or hardware manufacturing. It doesn’t mean you are an expert in everything today, but you are excited about the chance to become one. You probably buy too many books.

Mission‑driven. You look for more than just a paycheck and career advancement in your work and actively seek out a positive societal impact in what you do. You are inspired by Quilt’s mission to move humanity off fossil fuels in the home.

AI‑native. You are very comfortable with the latest in AI tooling and use it as part of your daily workflow.

Ready for a growth‑stage startup. Quilt is a fast‑moving startup on a real mission that we feel urgency towards on a daily basis. You will have more scope, more autonomy, move faster, and have less bureaucracy than at a big company – but also fewer resources, less support structure, and your equity compensation won’t be liquid for a few years.

Qualifications

Minimum 6 years professional work experience, at least 3 as a product manager. Being a founder of a product‑led startup counts towards this. Internships don’t. We are open to more experienced PMs as well and will scale scope and compensation appropriately.

Compensation

Base salary for this role is $180K-$230K, depending on experience. Compensation includes meaningful equity and strong benefits commensurate with a Series B company of our stage. This is a full time, hybrid role in our Redwood City office requiring at least 3 days in the office.
