Position Overview
The Product Inspection & Claim Defense Specialist will support the Product Safety (PS) Department by conducting comprehensive product analyses, managing product liability claims, and developing effective defense strategies. This role will assess product-related risks, support litigation and investigations, collaborate with engineering and QA teams, and provide strategic recommendations to leadership.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical troubleshooting experience, extensive product liability or claims experience, excellent analytical abilities, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional and international teams.
- Manage product liability claims involving alleged property damage, personal injury, pre-suit demands, litigation, and subrogation.
- Develop and implement claim defense strategies aligned with business objectives and risk tolerance.
- Conduct and support product inspections, technical investigations, and troubleshooting activities.
- Review QA laboratory findings and develop actionable recommendations based on analysis.
- Collaborate with product engineers, including offshore and international engineering teams, on corrective actions and product risk mitigation.
- Review settlement authority forms and provide recommendations for leadership approval.
- Provide real-time updates and reports to leadership regarding high-profile claims and investigations.
- Monitor claim managers to ensure effective customer service for consumers, agents, and internal/external stakeholders.
- Lead product liability litigation claims and investigations, including establishing strategies, priorities, and case-management plans.
- Participate in depositions and other litigation activities to support the defense of claims.
- Provide strategic advice to senior leadership regarding significant litigation, investigations, risk exposure, and mitigation strategies.
- Maintain comprehensive litigation and pending-claim management data.
- Maintain accurate diary systems and document claim-file activities in accordance with established procedures.
- Manage claim-related expenses and invoice processing.
- Attend fire scenes, product inspection sites, laboratories, and destructive examinations to support expert analysis and determine incident causes.
- Train junior investigators on product inspection techniques and review their inspection reports.
- Train Technical Call Center agents who support Product Liability Claims and coordinate on-site product inspections through service personnel.
- Serve as an internal consultant on product safety concerns and provide technical guidance to relevant teams.
- Develop and deliver training on product symptoms, remedies, mechanisms, and troubleshooting for home appliances and related products.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Technical education, product engineering, troubleshooting, claims, or product safety experience.
- Strong understanding of home appliances and display products.
- Experience managing product liability claims, investigations, or litigation matters.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong ability to identify, troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve application- or product-based issues.
- Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze complex information, identify risks, and make sound recommendations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a complex corporate environment.
- Ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally for business purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with product engineers and offshore resources across different time zones.
- Experience in complex corporate and departmental environments.
- CFEI (Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator) certification preferred.
- CFII (Certified Fire and Explosion Instructor) certification preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of U.S. litigation procedures preferred.
- Experience with fire scene investigations, laboratory examinations, or destructive product testing.
- Primarily based in Plano, TX, with travel required for inspections, investigations, meetings, and business activities.
- Regular interaction with engineering, QA, legal, claims, customer service, leadership, and external stakeholders.
- May require participation in product inspections, fire scenes, laboratories, and destructive examinations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel to product inspection sites, fire scenes, laboratories, and other investigation locations.
- Ability to participate in on-site and laboratory product examinations.
- Ability to review technical documentation and reports for extended periods.
