Howmet Aerospace Inc. is seeking an engineer to manage the dimensional integrity of an assigned portfolio of investment cast components at our Laporte, IN facility.

This role designs tooling, fixtures, gauges, and inspection plans to meet customer requirements and drive quality improvements. Key responsibilities include root-cause analysis, cost-reduction initiatives, and facilitating cross-functional collaboration to optimize production processes and reduce scrap and rework.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled and achieve bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution before hire date.
  • Experience with dimensional inspection planning and tooling is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure dimensional integrity of investment cast parts and develop tooling, fixtures, gauges, and inspection plans.
  • Lead continuous improvement to reduce cost, scrap, rework, and improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Investigate root causes of defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and validate dimensional qualification packages to meet customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with customers on BOM, routings, and milestone plans.
  • Attend NPI meetings and provide input for tooling and cost estimates.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the dimensional integrity of an assigned portfolio of investment cast parts. Responsibility includes the design and acquisition of tooling, fixtures, gauges, and dimensional inspection plans necessary to produce parts that consistently meet or exceed our customers’ requirements and expectations. Also, this position will identify and lead continuous improvement activities to reduce cost, improve scrap and rework yields, and improve the overall efficiency of the manufacturing process.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and improves processes of critical and complex aerospace components.
  • Conceives, evaluates and implements problem solving activities, cost reduction initiatives and part/process improvement activities.

Job responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Investigates and analyzes root cause of external customer escapes. Develops and implements corrective action plans accordingly.
  • Initiates, prepares and validates dimensional qualification packages to meet customer requirements.
  • Conducts meetings and provides technical data to meet customer needs.
  • Promptly responds to manufacturing issues and addresses root cause.
  • Evaluates defects and dimensional integrity of components and determines appropriate actions.
  • Defines and implements control plans and FMEA per customer requirements.
  • Collects, analyzes and prepares statistical data.
  • Conducts design review meetings with customers to ensure production capability on new components.
  • Develops production processes that are efficient and within cost estimates.
  • Evaluates and implements cost reduction activities.
  • Develops scrap and labor costs for cost modeling.
  • Defines, solicits and reviews quotes for tooling and cores.
  • Attends NPI meetings and provides input based on customer specifications for BOM, routings and milestone plans.
  • Defines designs, coordinates construction and validates finished tooling.
  • Collects & analyzes data to appropriately identify, institute, and monitor cost reduction efforts.
  • Collects & analyzes data to appropriately identify, institute, and monitor scrap and rework improvements.
  • Complies with all EHS rules required for the work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel will be required.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Must be currently enrolled and achieve bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution before hire date.

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications:

Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.

Experience working in Investment Casting.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization with.

Effective oral and written communication skills.
