Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field with 12 years of experience; or 8 years with a Master’s degree or 5+ years with a PhD.
  • Exceptional analytical and experimental design skills.
  • Experience with failure analysis using a diverse toolset of materials characterization techniques.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking, problem solving, troubleshooting capabilities, and resiliency.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

Collaborating closely with suppliers and internal stakeholder teams, you will provide real-time problem-solving to customer challenges and to enhance our products. In this highly visible role, you will collaborate with Lam’s product group to proactively identify, triage, and resolve quality issues, serving as a connection between the product group and the supplier engineering organization at Lam. Successful candidates will also define, develop, and execute qualification plans for new parts and manufacturing technologies, enabling product differentiation for Lam’s portfolio.



What you’ll do


  • Drive part development, production qualification, and implement quality plans at suppliers across the global Lam supplier network.

  • Lead product development projects from product prototyping, development, deployment/product release, and initial field support.

  • Independently design and conduct experiments, tests, and prototypes to resolve complex technical problems.

Who we’re looking for


  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optics, Physics, Chemistry, with 12 years' experience; or 8 years' experience with a Master’s degreel or a PhD with 5+ years’ experience; or equivalent experience.

  • Exceptional analytical and experimental design skills.

  • Experience with failure analysis using a diverse toolset of materials characterization techniques (microscopy, thermal and mechanical analysis, spectroscopy, etc.).

  • Demonstrated creative thinking, problem solving, troubleshooting capabilities, and resiliency.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

  • Comfortable traveling up to 25% of the time.



Preferred qualifications


  • Experience leading cross-functional teams comprised of internal and external stakeholders in product engineering and design, manufacturing, field support, quality, and supplier engineering.

  • Experience in plastics/soft material fabrication and new product introduction including mechanical engineering, roll‑to‑roll/tape material casting, elastomeric materials and product development, thermal materials characterization, and tool and die production.

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and relevant software packages (JMP, Minitab), Gage R&R, and Process Capability Analysis (Cpk/Ppk).

  • Able to quickly distill relevant information to solve problems and identify connections across a matrixed organization. High tolerance for ambiguity is beneficial.

  • Prior product design and technical engineering experience is beneficial.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.



Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: Min $125,000 - Max $270,000.


The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
