Job summary

Lam Research in Fremont, CA, is seeking a Product Engineer to drive development of etch gas delivery hardware. You will collaborate with customers and internal teams to solve real-time challenges and improve products in a high-stakes environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least 6 years of related industry experience.
• Minimum 3 years in product engineering.
• At least 1 year in three of: electromechanical design/manufacturing; systems engineering/integration; multivariate data modeling; SPC; vacuum systems; semiconductor tech.
• At least 1 year on fluid mechanics and gas delivery systems.
• Ability to read/use electrical and mechanical schematics and manuals.
• At least 1 year in SPC and basic statistical analysis in production.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to customers, field engineers, technicians, and product support personnel diagnosing hardware.
• Deliver remote and on-site escalation support and manage escalations.
• Report design, reliability, and maintenance issues including software bugs to design/engineering teams.
• Provide software requirements for new features and operation of gas delivery hardware.
• Collaborate with suppliers to develop and qualify new components.
• Test and analyze data for gas delivery hardware.
• Create/update documentation for field engineers and customers.
• Assist in customer installations and training as needed.
• Support customers in highly technical/product areas.

What you’ll do

• Provides technical support to customers, field engineers, technicians, and product support personnel who are diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and debugging Etch Gas Delivery hardware.
• Provides quality remote and on-site escalation support and escalation management.
• Reports design, reliability, and maintenance issues, as well as software bugs, to the design and software engineering teams.
• Provides software requirements for new features and the operation of gas delivery hardware.
• Works with suppliers to develop and qualify new components.
• Performs testing and analyzes data for new and existing gas delivery hardware.
• Creates and updates documentation for field service engineers and customers.
• May be involved in customer installations and training.
• Provides support to customers and users where the product is highly technical or sophisticated in nature.

Who we’re looking for

• Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field, with a minimum of 6 years of related industry experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in product engineering.
• Of the required experience, must have at least 1 year of experience in three of the following areas: electromechanical system design and manufacturing; systems engineering and integration; statistical methods for modeling multivariate data sets; statistical process control; vacuum systems; or semiconductor technologies.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working on projects involving fluid mechanics and gas delivery systems.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience reading and working from electrical and mechanical schematics and diagrams, as well as interpreting operation manuals.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience with statistical process control and basic statistical analysis in a production environment.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with suppliers to source and procure components, as well as perform failure analysis.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience using one or more of the following software tools or programming languages: CAD, OrCAD, LabVIEW, MATLAB, JMP, OpenMP, Fortran, C, C#, Python, STAR-CCM+, Fluent, COMSOL, Origin, or Maxwell.
• Must possess strong problem-solving and decision-making skills and demonstrate expertise in formal problem-solving methodologies.
• Strong presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical content, influence peers, respond to questions with confidence, and perform well under pressure.
• Experience gained while completing a graduate degree will be considered in addition to the minimum experience requirements.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior product design and technical engineer experience is beneficial.
• Exposure to and familiarity with building agentic AI solutions to automate decision-making and engineering processes, including analysis and action planning.
• Experience designing, specifying, building, operating, and maintaining semiconductor, automotive, aerospace, or related hardware, tools, and equipment.
• Experience coordinating and communicating with cross-functional teams.

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $104,000.00 - $231,000.00.

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
