Product Engineer II, RF/Microwave Module Products
Position Summary

MACOM is seeking a Product Engineer II to support New Product Introduction, manufacturing release, production test, and sustaining engineering for complex RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave module products at our Nashua, New Hampshire facility.

The Product Engineer II works with increasing independence and owns well-defined product engineering activities from initial characterization through production release and sustaining support. This engineer combines knowledge of RF product performance with practical experience in test development, data analysis, yield improvement, troubleshooting, and manufacturing processes.

The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between the engineering laboratory and production environment. One day may involve characterizing an RF module, debugging a fixture, or correlating two test systems. The next may involve analyzing a yield excursion, improving a test method, reviewing manufacturing documentation, or coordinating corrective actions with a cross-functional team.

What You Will Do
  • Support and increasingly own the transition of new RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave module products from engineering development into manufacturing.
  • Develop production test plans based on product requirements, design intent, risk, and measurable performance.
  • Perform RF and DC characterization across frequency, temperature, power, bias, and operating modes.
  • Design, analyze, document, and debug RF test boards, fixtures, interface hardware, and supporting circuitry.
  • Work with Test Engineering to develop, deploy, and improve automated production test solutions.
  • Establish correlation between bench characterization, automated production test, and customer-facing product specifications.
  • Analyze characterization and production data using appropriate statistical methods.
  • Recommend test limits that provide effective product screening without unnecessary yield loss.
  • Monitor product yield and test performance, identify abnormal trends, and lead focused investigations into assigned issues.
  • Perform structured root-cause analysis of electrical failures, test-system problems, assembly defects, and performance variation.
  • Support failure analysis and product qualification activities in collaboration with Quality and Reliability Engineering.
  • Ensure that test hardware, software, procedures, BOMs, drawings, manufacturing instructions, and other deliverables are ready for production release.
  • Review and approve test data and engineering results within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Support manufacturing personnel and technicians with test procedures, troubleshooting methods, and product-specific technical guidance.
  • Improve test accuracy, repeatability, throughput, maintainability, and cost.
  • Develop automated data-analysis tools and engineering utilities when beneficial.
  • Participate actively in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability, testability, expected variation, and production risk.
  • Coordinate actions across Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability, Supply Chain, and Operations.
  • Create clear technical reports and present findings at product, yield, and program reviews.
  • Support released products by resolving manufacturing and test issues in a timely and disciplined manner.
Level of Responsibility

A Product Engineer II is expected to:

  • Independently complete defined product engineering assignments.
  • Own portions of an NPI or manufacturing-release plan.
  • Lead routine yield and test-related investigations.
  • Recognize when a problem requires support from a more senior engineer or another technical discipline.
  • Make sound engineering recommendations supported by measurement and data.
  • Balance product performance, quality, yield, schedule, and cost.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to engineers, technicians, operations personnel, and program stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Typically two or more years of relevant engineering experience, including RF product engineering, test engineering, module engineering, applications engineering, manufacturing engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of RF and microwave concepts, measurements, and laboratory practices.
  • Hands-on experience with RF instruments such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and power meters.
  • Experience analyzing engineering or manufacturing data using statistical methods.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, assembly documentation, and test requirements.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic hardware and test setups.
  • Ability to create clear test procedures, technical reports, and engineering documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical activities and communicate effectively across disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with RF or microwave modules, multi-chip modules, integrated microwave assemblies, amplifiers, frequency converters, switches, attenuators, control electronics, or related products.
  • Experience testing components or modules at microwave or millimeter-wave frequencies.
  • Understanding of gain, return loss, isolation, compression, harmonics, noise figure, phase, linearity, and related RF performance metrics.
  • Experience with automated test equipment and test software.
  • Programming experience using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C#, C++, or similar tools.
  • Experience with measurement-system analysis, including correlation studies or gauge repeatability and reproducibility.
  • Experience with statistical process control, run charts, capability analysis, or yield analysis.
  • Experience with environmental characterization, qualification testing, or failure analysis.
  • Familiarity with RF PCB design, fixture design, impedance-controlled interconnects, coaxial interfaces, or waveguide hardware.
  • Familiarity with RF simulation or EDA tools such as Keysight ADS, AWR Microwave Office, HFSS, CST, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting an internal or external manufacturing partner.
The Candidate We Hope to Find

We are looking for an engineer who has moved beyond simply following a test procedure and wants to understand why a product behaves as it does. The ideal candidate is energized by an unexpected spur, a puzzling gain shift, an unexplained mismatch between two test systems, or a yield trend that does not make sense. This person uses measurements, statistics, and engineering fundamentals to turn those questions into practical manufacturing solutions.
