Job summary

Quantum Design is seeking a Product Engineer to act as the Cognizant Engineer for assigned options, processes, and tools supporting product quality and manufacturing efficiency. The role requires ownership of test procedures, fixturing, calibration standards, and coordination across R&D, Production, Quality, and Procurement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, or related technical field.
• Two years of professional experience supporting complex products, systems, or instrumentation in technical engineering.

Responsibilities

• Support all manufacturing departments for improving product quality by improving documentation clarity, revising fixturing, auditing quality checks, and implementing process changes
• Identify and resolve trending and critical failures in the field and in the factory, as relate to both hardware and software
• Initiate incremental process/product improvements which improve quality, increase efficiency, lower costs, and enhance customer satisfaction
• Execute full circle engineering design change (Analyze NCRs, Write ECOs, Close CARs) by addressing all ramifications of a design change
• Maintain and improve critical fixtures and/or software tools
• Provide troubleshooting support where required
• Communicate relevant design improvements to stakeholders across international offices by contributing content to the monthly product update newsletter
• Other duties as assigned

The Opportunity

As a Product Engineer, you will serve as the Cognizant Engineer (COG) for assigned measurement options, manufacturing processes, and production tools that support product quality, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency. This includes ownership of areas such as final test procedures, assembly quality checks, test software, fixturing, leak detection systems, calibration standards, and other manufacturing resources critical to successful product execution. You will provide direct support and coordinate projects, technical tasks, and troubleshooting efforts across multiple departments, including Research & Development, Production, Material Control, Quality Control, Procurement, and Customer Service, to resolve challenges and implement effective solutions. Projects may vary in complexity and priority, requiring strong organizational skills, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to balance competing demands.

As the technical owner for assigned products, processes, and tools, you will act as the primary point of contact for cross functional teams, providing technical support, conducting root cause investigations, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and executing engineering design changes. You will take initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement, applying engineering principles, performing and interpreting scientific measurements, and coordinating the resources necessary to successfully close the engineering design change loop. This role supports specific product lines, measurement options, and shared manufacturing systems, requiring close collaboration with product, manufacturing, quality, and design engineering teams to evaluate the impact of design changes and ensure successful implementation. Your supervisor will provide guidance on project priorities, technical direction, and professional development through regular collaboration and review.

Additional Information

• This position’s work mode is 100% onsite. The employee will report to our facility in San Diego, CA five days a week.
• Salary Range: $74,000 – $106,000, yearly
