Job summary

TRISTONE is seeking a qualified and motivated candidate for the position of Product Engineer to support our growing engineering activities in the USMCA region. The Product Engineer is responsible for driving the design completion and validation of automotive components in close collaboration with cross-functional teams and acting as the technical interface to the customer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive industry.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary technical interface with customers throughout the entire product lifecycle (RFQ to serial production).
  • Present and justify technical solutions, promoting TRISTONE's innovations and engineering capabilities.
  • Support Program Managers by ensuring alignment with targets for cost, quality, timing, and profitability.
  • Review and validate engineering requirements during RFQs and development phases.
  • Lead design reviews (3D/2D), including interface analysis and feasibility checks.
  • Develop and manage validation plans (DVP&R) with Quality, including test execution and result presentation.
  • Initiate and manage simulation requests (FEA, CFD, Moldflow).
  • Coordinate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) activities with suppliers.
  • Manage Design Change Requests (DCR) and ensure proper implementation in plants.
  • Maintain and manage technical documentation in PLM systems (e.g., ARAS).
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and methodologies.

About the Role

TRISTONE is seeking a qualified and motivated candidate for the position of Product Engineer to support our growing engineering activities in the USMCA region. The Product Engineer is responsible for driving the design completion and validation of automotive components in close collaboration with cross-functional teams. Acting as the technical interface to the customer, this role ensures that product designs meet all technical, quality, cost, and timing requirements from RFQ phase through serial production and beyond. The position requires a strong engineering mindset, customer-facing capabilities, and hands‑on experience in plastic and rubber extrusion technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary technical interface with customers throughout the entire product lifecycle (RFQ to serial production and engineering changes).
  • Present and justify technical solutions, promoting TRISTONE's innovations and engineering capabilities.
  • Support Program Managers by ensuring alignment with targets for cost, quality, timing, and profitability.
  • Review and validate engineering requirements during RFQs and development phases.
  • Lead design reviews (3D/2D), including interface analysis, feasibility checks, and lessons learned integration.
  • Ensure compliance with TRISTONE and customer-specific design standards and guidelines.
  • Develop and manage validation plans (DVP&R) with Quality, including test execution and result presentation.
  • Provide ED&T cost estimations and support quotation activities.
  • Initiate and manage simulation requests (FEA, CFD, Moldflow).
  • Coordinate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) activities with suppliers.
  • Manage Design Change Requests (DCR) and ensure proper implementation in plants.
  • Support material validation and homologation activities with customers and laboratories.
  • Maintain and manage technical documentation in PLM systems (e.g., ARAS).
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and methodologies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive industry.
Required Skills
  • Strong experience in extrusion processes (rubber and/or plastic).
  • Knowledge of injection molding and plastic joining technologies.
  • Familiarity with automotive standards.
  • Basic CAD knowledge (e.g., CATIA V5, NX) and ability to work with 3D/2D data.
  • Understanding of GD&T (ISO/ASME standards).
  • Experience with DFMEA/PFMEA and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Knowledge of tolerance analysis and stack-up calculations.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional and international teams.
  • Fluent in English (additional languages are a plus).

The location of this position will be based in Northville, MI, USA.

Reporting to

The Product Engineer will report to the Product Development Manager.
