Job summary

Amphenol Communications Solutions, a division of Amphenol, seeks a Product Engineer in Nashua, NH to act as the technical expert for connector product lines, guiding design, development, and manufacture while coordinating with sales and marketing.

The role requires delivering technical leadership across prototypes, validations, and product launches, and traveling as needed to support global teams and customers.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of industry experience in interconnects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic to good understanding of GD&T methodologies.
  • Experience with solid modeling tools (Pro/E); FEA tools a plus.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical people.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Ability to travel ~10% domestic and international.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain product quality and reliability; ensure mechanical integrity and perform failure analysis.
  • Manage product documentation and specifications at component and process levels.
  • Serve as the customer focal point for technical product information and guidance.
  • Integrate new technologies and manufacturing methods into product designs for new releases.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing personnel; support pilot production and beta-site interfacing.
  • Oversee transition from NPI to volume manufacturing in low-cost regions; coordinate with NPI and manufacturing groups.
  • Provide technical assistance to drafters, designers, and engineers.
  • Support mechanical design with intolerance analysis, FEA, material evaluation and failure analysis.
  • Participate in material identification, benchmarking, and development of new manufacturing techniques.
  • Support design reviews, testing and qualification of new products including derivatives.
  • Contribute to quality investigations and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Create and manage test plans for the NPI process.
  • Identify project initiatives such as cost improvement and product benchmarking.

Position: Product Engineer
Location: Nashua, NH
POSITION SUMMARY:

The Product Engineer will be the technical expert for one or more connector product lines responsible for planning and managing complex technical projects. You will provide technical expertise in the design development and manufacture of connector products while providing direction to other engineers and support personnel. The Product Engineer will also support the overall business by executing the technical aspects of the strategic plans of the organization, act as the technical liaison expert for sales and marketing groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain product quality and reliability, ensure mechanical integrity, and perform failure analysis on defects from customer applications and certain manufacturing processes.
  • Manage product related documentation and specifications at the component level, the manufacturing processes, and field application performance by maintaining all aspects of the product design integrity.
  • Serve as the customer focal point in support of technical product information, in-field applications and general guidance related to product performance.
  • Integrate new technologies, innovative manufacturing methods, and critical cost initiatives into aspects of process/product designs supporting new product releases.
  • Work closely with internal and external suppliers and manufacturing personnel, supporting the development and validation of product prototypes thru pilot production, as well as interfacing with beta-site customers.
  • Be responsible for the successful transition of products and processes from NPI phase to volume manufacturing into low-cost regions and regular interfacing with NPI and manufacturing engineering groups at the connector manufacturing facilities globally.
  • Provide technical assistance to drafters, designers, engineers, and other support personnel.
  • Support the product design effort in a mechanical capacity by developing / participating in intolerance analysis work, FEA, material evaluation efforts and failure analysis activities.
  • Take part in efforts leading to new / alternate material identification and benchmarking as well as participating in development of new innovative manufacturing techniques supporting product lines.
  • Actively participate / integrate with product designers in support of design reviews, component and product testing and qualification, and introduction of new products including product derivatives supporting market demands.
  • Participate in quality investigations and quality improvement initiatives in support of operational excellence.
  • Participate in fixture design and in creating and managing test plans supporting the NPI process.
  • Identify and facilitate a variety of project initiatives such as cost improvement, overall quality initiatives, and product performance benchmarking.
Required Qualifications:
  • BS/MS Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of industry experience, interconnect preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Basic to good understanding of GD&T methodologies
  • Experience with solid modeling tools (Pro/E), FEA tools a plus
  • Ability to communicate with technical & non-technical people
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently
  • Ability to travel ~10% domestic and international
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of copper alloys and high-performance engineering thermoplastics would be a plus
  • Basic understanding of electrical connectors
  • Experience with Minitab
