Job summary

Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Company (EBAD) seeks a Product Engineer to evaluate designs for manufacturability for the Machine Center. The PE will lead technical aspects of projects across the production life cycle, focusing on manufacturability analyses, tool design, and factory layout.

Qualifications

  • The candidate must hold a BS/MS in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical or manufacturing.
  • Experience with multi-part mechanisms and mechanical assemblies is required.
  • Knowledge of space vehicle mechanisms and systems is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with CAD, 3-D modeling, assembly drawings and GD&T.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturing methods/techniques is expected.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated program/project leadership.
  • Project management skills to document, plan, and execute programs.
  • Experience with aerospace products and processes is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
  • ERP/MRP systems familiarity and MS Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint) with MS Project.

Responsibilities

  • Development and maintenance of manufacturing documentation (Product Structures, routings, process specs, tooling).
  • Solving manufacturing problems, investigating process failures and implementing corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with departments to ensure production viability of new designs and internal documentation approvals.
  • Interface with production personnel including operators, quality inspectors, and shop floor supervisors.
  • Implementation of Lean methodologies including standard work, point of use tooling, material presentation and process improvements.
  • Development of automated test fixtures and assembly tools.
  • Development of layouts of manufacturing cell design including tooling, machinery and equipment.
  • Creation of PFMEA.
  • Creating standard work and contributing to manufacturing cell planning.
  • Tracking status and ensuring completion of operations milestones and tasks for production programs.
  • Creating Tool Assemblies and Drawings, inputting assemblies into tool setter database.
  • Developing a PQPR for machining part families.

Job Description

EBAD is seeking a Product Engineer with experience working in a manufacturing environment. The Product Engineer will be responsible for evaluating designs for manufacturability for the Machine Center. Candidate will have key areas of expertise in analyzing user requirements, design for manufacturability, tool design, and manufacturing cell layout.

Responsibilities:

This position supports and reports directly to the Product Engineering Lead. The Product Engineer (PE) is the technical lead on internal and external projects and is responsible for all technical and schedule aspects of the project/product throughout the production life cycle. Primary duties include:

  • Development and maintenance of manufacturing documentation (including Product Structures, routings, process specifications and tooling) .
  • Solving manufacturing problems, investigating process failures and implementing corrective actions

  • Interface with production personnel including operators, quality inspectors, and shop floor supervisors.

  • Development of automated test fixtures and assembly tools
  • Development of layouts of manufacturing cell design including tooling, machinery and equipment.
  • Creation of Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Creating standard work and contributing to manufacturing cell planning
  • Tracking status and ensuring completion of operations milestones and tasks for production programs
  • Creating Tool Assemblies and Drawings, inputting assemblies into tool setter data base.
  • Developing a PQPR for machining part families.
Requirements:

The successful candidate must have a BS/MS in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering and manufacturing or related engineering experience in multi-part mechanisms and mechanical assemblies. Additionally, it is desired that the candidate has experience in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of space vehicle mechanisms and systems
  • CAD, 3-D modeling, assembly creation, drawings and GD&T.
  • Design of tooling and fixtures
  • Design for Manufacturing methods and techniques
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Formal problem analysis and resolution
  • Project management skills with the ability to document, plan, and execute programs
  • Working with aerospace products and processes.
  • Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing practices
  • Enterprise/Manufacturing Resource Planning (ERP/MRP) systems.
  • MS Office– Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Familiar with and able to work in MS Project.

PE I – 0-2 years exp – S10 -performing tasks to learn the process

PE II – 2-4 years exp – S11 -working the process with support

PE III – 4-6 years exp – S12 -working the process independently

Senior PE – 6+ years exp – S13 -teaching the process
