Job summary

Knappco, LLC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to drive front-end design for a line of fluid-handling products at the Hamilton, OH facility. You will collaborate with product management and fellow engineers from concept through prototyping and into production.

The role requires a BS Mechanical Engineering with 3–5+ years of design or manufacturing support experience. Proficiency in Creo/Windchill, DFMA and stage-gate processes is expected, with up to 10% travel.

• 3–5+ years in design, applications, or product engineering with manufacturing support.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (Creo) and Windchill; familiarity with stage-gate, FMEA, DFMA.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models and 2D drawings from customer input.
• Build, test, and refine prototypes to meet safety, functionality and regulatory targets.
• Work with operations to optimize manufacturing processes using DFMA principles.
• Manage engineering change process and update BOMs and drawings.
• Develop technical documentation including BOMs, drawings, FMEA, and related data.
• Provide technical support to sales and customer service as needed.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams through the stage-gate process.

Summary Description

Responsible for the front-end product design for a diverse line of fluid transfer products manufactured in the Hamilton, Ohio facility. This role will collaborate with fellow engineers and product management to develop new products or make significant changes to existing products from initial design and prototyping to testing and production.

Essential Responsibilities

• Use CAD to create detailed mechanical designs, 3D models, and 2D drawings based on voice of customer input. Help manage project plans, be accountable for project deadlines and product cost targets, and lead cross-functional teams to support design initiatives throughout the stage-gate process.
• Build, test, and refine prototypes to ensure safety, functionality, durability, reliability, and regulatory objectives are met.
• Work closely with operations team to develop and optimize manufacturing processes for new products using DFMA principles.
• Manage the engineering change process to document new product designs or significant improvements in product performance.
• Create or update technical documentation including bills of material, drawings, FMEA, and other supporting information as necessary.
• Interface with sustaining engineering and operations teams as needed (including manufacturing, quality, and supply chain) to provide advanced technical support of products manufactured in the Hamilton, Ohio facility.
• Provide engineering support to customer service and sales teams to answer escalated technical inquiries.
• Other activities as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). 3—5+ years of experience in design or application engineering, manufacturing support, or product engineering. Strong mechanical aptitude with an ability to clearly communicate technical information across the organization. Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software (Creo and Windchill preferred). Knowledge of product development processes and tools (stage-gate, FMEA, DFMA, etc.) Experience with the engineering change process and ERP systems (creating and updating item masters and bills of material). Familiarity with industry standards and manufacturing processes. Ability to travel up to 10% This position is based in the Knappco facility in Hamilton, OH.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a manufacturing facility with exposure to fluid handling equipment, including components such as valves, connectors, and swivels. Strong data-driven problem solving background, including the ability to conduct analyses, identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and verify effective closure and removal of issues in manufacturing environments. Familiar with designing components made from aluminum, carbon steel, and stainless steel, as well as different manufacturing processes like castings, forgings, machining, and welding. Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ASME B31.3 a plus. Experience with conducting basic FEA and CFD simulations. High level of customer focus and ability to maintain a positive attitude. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times with customers and coworkers. Fully observe Dover’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Employee Handbook “Personal Conduct of Employees” policies. High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products. Self-directed, positive and ethical role model able to work with minimal supervision.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment. The employee may occasionally work near moving mechanical parts while on shop floor.
