Oldcastle Infrastructure, a CRH company, is seeking a Product Engineer - Primex in Hector, MN to drive new product development of enclosure solutions for broadband deployments. You will lead design, prototyping, testing, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver manufacturable, customer-focused products.

The role emphasizes 3D modeling, simulation, regulatory compliance, and hands-on engineering in a fast-paced environment, with hybrid work from our Hector facility.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years product development experience in manufactured products.
  • PE/PEng or EIT preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or mechanical engineering.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced product development environment.
  • Proficient in 3D modeling and CAD tools.
  • Understanding regulatory codes and product compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Establish design specifications based on industry and customer standards and expectations.
  • Lead design, prototyping, and testing of Primex enclosures with accompanying components/accessories.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to bring a product from concept to commercial release.
  • Coordinate internal and third-party testing and prototyping of product.
  • Collaborate with Operations in tooling, automation, and assembly process design to ensure manufacturability and smooth production transfer.
  • Establish product specifications, material standards, and testing requirements for operations.
  • Perform product design calculations and 3D modeling; verify designs with simulations (FEA).
  • Work with Drafting to review/create customer details, product designs and drawings.
  • Provide technical support for quality standards and certifications; maintain regulatory approvals.
  • Set goals for internal/external projects; create SKU and Bills of Materials.
  • Attend job sites and customer meetings to provide technical support; research new technologies.

Job Summary

The Product Engineer is responsible for driving new product development and enhancing existing products to support Oldcastle Infrastructure's continued growth and innovation. This role leads the design, engineering, and technical execution of products within the Primex portfolio while partnering closely with Product Management, Operations, Sales, and other cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer and market demands. The Product Engineer - Primex will design and develop network infrastructure solutions, including indoor and outdoor enclosures that support broadband and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) deployments. This position plays a key role in advancing product performance, manufacturability, and customer value across the Primex product line.

Job Location

This is a hybrid role based out of our facility in Hector, MN.

Job Responsibilities
  • Establish design specifications based on industry and customer standards and expectations
  • Perform, oversee, and direct product design and detailing along with product prototyping and testing of Primex enclosures with accompanying components/accessories
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team, utilizing a stage-gate product development process led by Product Management, to bring a product from concept to commercial release
  • Coordinate internal and third-party testing and prototyping of product
  • Collaborate with Operations in the design and implementation of tooling, automation, and assembly processes. Ensure manufacturability of designs and a seamless introduction of those designs to production
  • Establish product specifications, material standards, and testing requirements for operations' teams based on industry and customer expectations
  • Product design calculations and 3D modeling of designs
  • Verify designs including suitable simulation - Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Partner with Drafting team to review/create customer details, product designs and drawings
  • Provide technical support and expertise for quality standards and certifications
  • Set goals and objectives for internal and external customer projects
  • Maintain existing regulatory approvals and assist commercial team in acquiring of new approvals
  • Create SKU's and Bills of Material
  • Attend job sites and customer meetings as needed to provide technical support
  • Research new technologies to ensure Oldcastle remains at the forefront of the industry
  • Support maintenance and improvement of product through change management process
  • Support the Sales and Customer Service teams in pre-sale and post-sale strategies including answering customer questions and investigating product inquiries/issues
Job Requirements
  • Strong technical ability and 5+ years relevant product development and hands-on work experience with physically manufactured product(s). Being an accredited PE/PEng or EIT is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or mechanical engineering, or related field
  • A pro-active collaborative individual with a passion for excellent product and continuous improvement as well as a keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team in a fast-paced product development environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in 3D modeling and document management software, preferably with Inventor/Vault and SolidWorks/PDM
  • Proficient in applicable simulation analysis software tools
  • Demonstrated ability to understand regulatory code/standards and achieve product compliance
Compensation
  • Base salary range of $85,000-95,000 per year
  • Target bonus opportunity 10% of base salary
