Job summary

VELUX seeks a Product Development Engineer to create innovative roof window, skylight, and sun tunnel products and improve existing ones to meet customer needs, quality, and cost targets. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and product development experience.
• Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes including wood, glass, metals, and plastics.
• CAD and 3D modeling experience; SolidWorks preferred.
• Strong mechanical engineering, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Creative design approach with ability to communicate through drawings, 3D models, prototypes and presentations.
• Strong planning, organization, communication, and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools from concept to production.
• Define requirements with internal teams and market partners; establish scope and plans.
• Perform analyses including tolerance stack-ups, material selection, stress calculations, and basic FEA.
• Develop prototypes and test units; document results and recommendations.
• Support root-cause analysis and continuous improvement with manufacturing and supply chain teams.
• Create and maintain drawings, BOMs, specs, and documentation ensuring safety, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and environmental considerations.

We are looking for a talented Product Development Engineer to help develop innovative products for the roof window, skylight, and sun tunnel markets while improving existing products to meet customer needs, quality standards, delivery requirements, and cost targets.

Starting Monthly Salary: $7,000–$9,200

About The Role

We are looking for a talented Product Development Engineer to help develop innovative products for the roof window, skylight, and sun tunnel markets while improving existing products to meet customer needs, quality standards, delivery requirements, and cost targets.

In this role, you will support the full product development process, from market research and concept development through engineering design, prototyping, testing, validation, and production. You will work closely with teams across engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales and marketing, procurement, and other functions to turn ideas and customer needs into practical, reliable, and cost-effective products.

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering skills with creativity, curiosity, and a genuine interest in how people use products.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools such as SolidWorks, from initial concepts through production.
• Work with internal teams and market partners to define requirements, develop concepts, and establish project scope and plans.
• Perform engineering analyses including tolerance stack-ups, material selection, stress calculations, and basic finite element analysis (FEA).
• Develop prototypes and test units, participate in product testing and validation, and document results and recommendations.
• Support root-cause analysis and continuous improvement of existing products, working with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and supply chain teams to resolve issues and improve product performance.
• Create and maintain engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and other technical documentation while ensuring designs meet requirements for safety, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and environmental impact.

Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering combined with experience in product development and knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, including wood, glass, metals, and plastics.

Furthermore, you have:

• Experience with CAD and 3D modeling; SolidWorks experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical engineering, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Creative approach to design with the ability to communicate ideas through drawings, 3D models, prototypes, and presentations.
• Strong planning, organization, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
