Job summary

Ford Motor Company located at the Chicago Assembly Plant (CAP) is seeking a PVT Engineer to analyze and improve quality for Explorer, Aviator, and Police Interceptor products. You will lead containment actions, drive problem-solving with 8D/A3 methodologies, and coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure quality targets are met.

The role focuses on V48/transmission and V51/driveline groups, with opportunities to work across IPTSE/UnSE systems and contribute to future product

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with quality containment and corrective action processes, including root cause analysis and driving interim/permanent corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with quality and engineering systems such as GSAR, JIRA, QED, AIMS, WERS, and IRIS/SIMPSN, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems.

  • Review external quality data supporting warranty triage and quality reviews.
  • Lead problem-solving activities using 8D, A3, Six Sigma and related tools.
  • Develop interim containment and permanent corrective actions based on data.
  • Support plant with Stop Ships/Builds, campaigns, audits and RCA activities.
  • Maintain quality documents and drive achievement of quality targets.
  • Lead engineering design changes for future product launches.

This PVT Engineering position is a member of Ford Motor Company's Product Development organization located at the Chicago Assembly Plant (CAP) along with the Operations team. The PVT Engineer at Chicago is the 'first line of defense', analyzing and improving the quality of the Explorer, Aviator, and Police Interceptor products manufactured at CAP, with a focus on product design. This role has responsibility for the V48 (Transmission) and V51 (Driveline) Vehicle Functional Groups (VFGs), with opportunities to learn the other IPTSE/UnSE systems.

In this position...
  • Review external quality data supporting the warranty Central Triage Team and Working Quality Reviews, contact dealerships for parts and repair diagnoses, participate in customer call back to ensure proper understanding of customer inputs in Quality surveys, review returned parts for root cause analysis
  • Lead and Support Problem-Solving activities via disciplined methods such as 8D, A3, Six Sigma, with supporting tools.
  • Develop Interim Containment and Permanent Corrective Actions based on internal and external quality data.
  • Support assembly plant with Stop Ships/Stop Builds, Campaigns, Audits, Root Cause Analysis and other Quality issues.
  • Maintain sub-system or Vehicle Functional Group (VFG) level Quality documents and drive the achievement of quality targets.
  • Lead engineering design changes for future minor product launches.
What you'll do...
  • Support Variability Reduction Team (VRT) for specific sub-systems and work closely with Supplier partners for sub-system components to address quality concerns
  • Lead engineering trials and the implementation of running changes and Supplier Requests for Engineering Authorization (SREA) for the sub-system
  • Issue engineering Alerts and initiate & pursue authorization of engineering Concerns for product changes to support Quality objectives
  • Engage technical experts and functional team members for driving resolution and in developing corrective actions to improve product quality
  • Create and deliver presentations to various levels of management (weekly VRT report out, Vehicle Quality Reviews, Engineering Manager/Chief/Director reviews)
