Job description

Company Overview Hybron is an advanced manufacturing company that is building lightweight composites at mass production scale. At Hybron, we have pioneered a new composites manufacturing process that enables complex, high performance composite parts to be produced 10-100 times faster than traditional manufacturing, at a fraction of the cost. We recently closed an oversubscribed $25M seed round, are backed by the Northrop Grumman Technology Accelerator, and are rapidly growing to commercialize and mass produce composite products at a scale never seen before. Our current focus is applying our proprietary process to composite artillery shells, solid rocket motor nozzles, gas turbine engine components, and airframes. If you want to join a rapidly growing company working on cutting edge composites technology while building capabilities for the warfighter and reshoring U.S. manufacturing, then we want to speak with you.

About the Role

This is a full-time, in-person role at our El Segundo pilot facility. As you will be working at an early-stage deep tech startup, this role will span many different tasks. You will need to be a self-starter and be adaptable to performing many different jobs. Along with these high expectations comes the opportunity to significantly influence the product development, strategy, and trajectory of a fast-growing startup company. Your work will tangibly impact our company and the composites industry, and you will be able to make rapid professional gains in an environment that encourages growth and innovation.

This role involves leading the end-to-end development and scaled manufacturing of high-performance composite products. You will be responsible for taking innovative concepts, designing products, manufacturing first articles, proving performance, and scaling manufacturing. As the owner of the product lifecycle, you will oversee design for manufacturing, material selection, layup optimization, and tooling integration.

Working in a high-growth company, you will be wearing many hats: project management, requirements identification, manufacturing design, stress and performance design, supply chain and vendor management, process optimization, continuous improvement, quality inspection, customer engagement, and more.

Growth Opportunity and Targets

As you grow with Hybron, your responsibilities are expected to shift and evolve. Our hope is that you will be able to grow into the following responsibilities:

  • Grow and lead an engineering team for developing and deploying our manufacturing capabilities in different applications
  • Own product development and engineering on one or several products at Hybron
  • Assist with technical business development efforts
  • Identify and execute on developing/integrating strategic technological capabilities
  • Spearhead, oversee, and deliver on large technology development initiatives
What we’re looking for
  • Must be a US Person pursuant to the EAR and the ITAR definitions
  • Ability to work in-person at our facility in El Segundo
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or science field (Composites, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Polymer Science, etc.)
  • 4+ years of experience working with fiber-reinforced polymer composites materials, with specific experience in design and manufacturing
  • Strong experience with CAD and GD&T
  • Proven ownership in product development, especially in composites-related applications
  • Proven experience with rapid prototyping and driving product maturity while managing technical risk
  • Demonstrated proof of having scaled manufacturing production (especially in composites)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a drive to deliver on ambitious schedules, even and especially if unconventional & creative solutions are necessary to do so
  • Thrives in cross-functional organizations with strong communication and collaboration
  • Experience with managing projects and working with suppliers and third parties
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery, including but not limited to: forklifts, presses, and ovens
Nice to Have
  • Experience with composite molding technologies, such as compression molding and injection molding
  • Experience with continuous fiber layups
  • Experience working with customers to identify, consolidate, and meet technical requirements
  • Experience working at or leading a small company/business, or with small teams
  • Experience in aerospace and/or defense manufacturing
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and AS9100 certification and standards
  • Experience with FEA simulation software
  • Experience with R&D project management
  • Experience with creating and presenting business cases to upper management
Compensation and Schedule

  • Significant stock options in the company
  • Potential additional compensation
  • Mondays – Fridays in-person
