Job summary

Ford in Dearborn, MI is seeking an experienced engineer to advance electronic reliability and environmental testing for automotive modules. The role requires deep knowledge of reliability concepts and test standards, with responsibility for test plans, results, and issue resolution across Ford teams and suppliers.

The candidate will be a subject matter expert in environmental testing, solder processes, conformal and nano coatings, and reliability physics analysis, contributing to ongoing Ford

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years in electronic reliability or environmental testing.
  • 3+ years with solder processes for manufacturing.
  • Experience with reliability simulations (e.g., ANSYS Sherlock).
  • Knowledge of environmental test requirements and protective coatings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain electronic reliability requirements.
  • Provide guidance on applying these requirements.
  • Review and approve test plans for electronic module environmental testing.
  • Review test results and support investigations of non-compliances.
  • Support issue investigations for electronic module tests and reliability concerns across Ford teams and suppliers.
  • Engage with industry standards related to electronics testing and reliability.
  • Act as SME in environmental testing for electronic modules, solder processes, conformal and nano coatings, and reliability physics analysis.

In this position...

In this role the engineer must understand general electronic reliability and test standards. Experience in automotive testing and reliability is required. The engineer must be willing to share responsibility for the Ford environmental test strategy and requirements for Electronic modules. Maintaining these test requirements and adapting them to meet corporate reliability strategy will be required. Additionally, the engineer must support the application of these requirements by address questions from teams working to implement them, review test plans, and review test results.

Skills required:
Worst-case Circuit Analysis:
  • Understanding the application of the analysis and how it applies to the larger reliability and test strategy.
Reliability engineering:
  • Understanding of reliability concepts, such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMECA), Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), and stress/derating analysis.
Requirements management:
  • Understanding the requirement meaning for an application. Ability to understand and answer questions about requirement content and applicability.
  • Understanding of environmental test requirements, their application, and the ability to help apply those requirements and answer questions about them from other team members.
  • Ability to incorporate lessons learned to remove potential gaps in the requirements to prevent issue reoccurrence.
What you'll do...

Support the development and maintenance of new and existing electronic reliability requirements.

Provide guidance on the application of these requirements.

Review and approve test plans for electronic module environmental testing.

Review and approve test results and support investigation of non-compliances.

Support issue investigation and resolution for electronic module test and reliability concerns for Ford internal teams and all tiers of suppliers to Ford Motor Company.

Support Ford's interest in industry standards related to electronics testing and reliability

  • Act as a subject matter expert in the areas:
  • Environmental Testing for Electronic Module
  • Solder processes for manufacturing
  • Conformal coating and nano coating
  • Reliability Physics Analysis
You'll have...
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent degree
  • 5 years minimum experience in electronic reliability or environmental testing.
  • 3 years minimum experience with solder processes for manufacturing
  • Experience and knowledge of electronic reliability simulation (i.e. ANsys Sherlock)
  • Experience with the application of conformal and nano coatings
Even better, you may have...
  • Master's degree in Engineering or equivalent degree
  • Knowledge of J3168 - Reliability Physics Analysis of Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical Equipment, Modules and Components a plus.

This position is a salary grade range of 5 - 7 and ranges from $68,300 - $192,900.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
