Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver user-centric medical devices, packaging, digital products, and accompanying branding with focus on industrial design and UI.
  • Create packaging artwork compliant with regulatory, labeling, branding, and readability requirements.
  • Own product instructional design strategy, including instruction types like Instructions for Use, Quick Reference Guides, and digital IFUs.
  • Conduct exploratory research to gather user insights and translate into UX/interface requirements.
  • Create user journeys, UI illustrations, storyboards, prototypes, and wireframes.
  • Advocate for patient and clinician needs in Takeda's regulated products.
  • Select and apply the right tools to communicate design intent across outputs.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, human factors, quality, regulatory, and purchasing.
  • Ability to manage vendors and external partners; travel up to 10%.

Job Description

This role requires expertise of design thinking and the ability to distill user research insights into actionable design. It extends beyond conventional graphic design by integrating insights into user behavior, regulatory expectations, and the unique challenges of medical device and combination product design. Success hinges on translating user needs into intuitive, compliant solutions across all PD group output areas: device design, packaging, IFUs and associated instruction materials (physical and digital), journey mapping, and user-needs research.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with the lead designer to scope, design, and deliver user-centric physical and digital products medical devices, combination products, digital products, and accompanying packaging with a focus on industrial design and user interface design.
  • Create packaging artwork solutions compliant with regulatory, labeling, branding, and readability requirements, ensuring information is clear, accurate, accessible, and appropriately prioritized for intended users.
  • Own product instructional design strategy, including instructional style guides and best practices. Primary instruction types include Instructions for Use, Quick Reference Guides, packaging branding, and other product labeling; secondary types may include digital IFUs, digital training tools, and video training support.
  • Conduct exploratory research to gather user insights and design trends, evaluate user interface concepts, translate user needs into UX and interface requirements and specifications, and iteratively evaluate device user interfaces to ensure optimal user experience.
  • Create user journeys, user interface illustrations, storyboards, prototypes, and wireframes.
  • Learn about, understand, and advocate for the needs and experience of patients, clinicians, and other users in the development of Takeda's regulated products and services, focusing on patient-oriented needs identification and solutions.
  • Select and apply the right tools for each output category physical products, printed instructional materials, packaging, and digital solutions and communicate design intent clearly through them.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, human factors, quality, clinical & medical affairs, regulatory affairs, commercial, legal, and purchasing.
  • Ability to effectively manage vendors and external partners to support successful project delivery
  • This position may require up to 10% yearly travel, including domestic and international.

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Strong experience creating 2D vector illustrations, technical illustrations, and visual assets.
  • Experience creating photorealistic product and packaging renderings in Photoshop/KeyShot or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360.
  • Advanced Figma skills, including design systems, prototyping, and UX/UI design.
  • Proven ability to transform low-fidelity concepts, wireframes, and mockups into high-fidelity, fully functional interactive prototypes and production-ready user interfaces.
  • Strong visual design skills with attention to detail and consistency.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards in medical device design.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with MS Windows operating systems and software applications.
  • Proficiency in AI-enabled design tools and workflows to support research synthesis, ideation, prototyping, visualization, and design communication.
  • Experience creating medical illustrations and animations (desirable).
  • Familiarity with human factors engineering principles (desirable).

U.S. Base Salary Range:

$103,500.00 - $162,690.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
