Job summary

Magna Engineered Glass is seeking a results-driven engineer to translate customer specifications into validated exterior/glass system designs. You will own DFMEA, guide EBOM updates, and lead cross-functional teams through DFMEA/DVP&R processes, DA/VE investigations, and DOE/DFSS problem-solving to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field is required.
  • Experience with automotive OEM launches and gated launch processes is expected.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite and project management tools is required.

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer specs and standards into robust exterior/glass system designs from concept to validated release.
  • Define scope and lead cross-functional technical work across product, process, tooling, and materials.
  • Use DFMEA, DVP, 8D, DOE and DFSS methodologies to solve multi-component challenges.
  • Lead VA/VE investigations and implement data-driven improvements.
  • Coordinate mockups, prototyping, and development tests to de-risk early stages.

Imagine a week where you finalize a DFMEA, guide EBOM updates, execute a focused DOE to close a tolerance risk, and lead a customer VA/VE workshop—then cap it off by validating a prototype through a crisp DVP&R.What you will doTranslate Automotive Standards and Customer Specifications into robust exterior/glass system designs from concept to validated release.Apply DfMA with Magna Exteriors’ design team to simplify manufacturing, reduce cost, and improve assembly efficiency and safety.Be the authority on customer performance documents; ensure frozen designs meet/exceed targets.Own CR/CN creation and tracking in Magna Change X to drive rapid closure.Define scope and lead cross-functional technical work spanning product, process, tooling, and materials.Use engineering analysis, 8D, DOE, and DFSS to solve multi-component and subsystem challenges.Lead customer-facing VA/VE investigations and implement data-driven improvements.Coordinate mockups, rapid prototyping, and development tests to de-risk early.Institutionalize best practices and lessons learned across programs.Support prototype, pre-production, and production builds—both in-plant and at customer facilities.Protect IP and complete tasks that ensure project and departmental success.Cultivate productive relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.Partner closely with Program Management on product/process maturation, prototype tooling, and builds.Your PDP accountabilitiesDFMEA ownershipProduct Specification & VerificationEBOM accuracyDVP&R planning and executionVA/VE deliveryWhat you bringBachelor’s (or higher) in an Engineering or Technical field.4–9 years of experience, including direct customer/supplier engagement, new product launch, gated launch processes, Automotive OEM exposure, and confident negotiation/public speaking.Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word proficiency.Willingness to travel up to 25% during peak launches.Ability to work extended periods on the manufacturing floor and at customer sites; capable of occasionally lifting/moving up to 35 pounds.Core competenciesCommunication & English ProficiencyEthics & InitiativeSafety & Customer FocusCollaboration & Stakeholder AlignmentTechnical toolkitRequiredStrong math skills.GD&T literacy with blueprint interpretation.Project timeline management (Agile and/or Waterfall).Authoring/maintaining DFMEA, DVP, open issues, and schedules.PreferredASME GD&T certification.VA/VE certification.SAE Product Engineering Tools & Methods certificate.Six Sigma Belt credential.CAD familiarity.Our hiring approachWe use AI tools within Workday to help surface candidates whose experience aligns with this role.
