Job description

About The Team

Our Product Design team creates intuitive digital experiences that help customers accomplish their goals, including simplifying workflows and making complex information easier to understand. We partner with product managers, engineers, researchers, and content designers to balance customer needs, business goals, accessibility, and technical constraints. As a Zillow Product Design Intern, you’ll contribute to a scoped design project with guidance from experienced designers, gaining hands‑on experience from understanding a customer problem through exploring, prototyping, and refining a solution.

About The Role

At Zillow, interns do meaningful work that contributes to the business from day one. Our nine‑week summer internship program, running June through August, gives students the opportunity to bring their ideas and perspectives to real projects alongside Zillow teams.

Interns build hands‑on experience, connect with mentors and leaders, and take part in learning and community experiences with their intern cohort. Our 2027 internships are based in Seattle and follow a hybrid schedule, with interns generally working together in person Tuesday through Thursday. Eligible interns will receive a stipend to help offset summer housing and relocation costs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a scoped design project: With guidance from experienced designers, help define a customer problem, explore solutions, and develop user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and refined interface designs. Present your recommendations, process, and learnings at the end of the internship.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally: Partner with designers, product managers, engineers, and research or content partners. Learn how teams evaluate ideas, define success criteria, and balance customer needs with technical constraints. Document design intent and support implementation review.
  • Simplify workflows and apply design systems: Help make customer tasks easier to complete by improving navigation, interactions, and information clarity. Use established design system components and patterns, considering accessibility and consistency throughout your work.
  • Practice user‑centered design and iteration: Review existing research and customer feedback, support usability testing, and translate findings into design improvements with guidance. Share work in design critiques, explain your thinking, and refine solutions based on feedback.
  • Learn how to incorporate AI tools into your design work. With the changing landscape of tools that designers use, it’s important to learn how to use them to your advantage. You’ll work side‑by‑side with experienced designers who work with AI tools daily. These tools are evolving quickly, and the hands‑on experience will be invaluable.
Remote Position

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

Base Pay Range

In California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $104,000.00 - $166,000.00 annually. This base pay range is specific to these locations and may not be applicable to other locations.

Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are
  • Student status: Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in design, human‑computer interaction, or a related field.
  • Design portfolio: Share projects that demonstrate foundational UX/UI skills, user‑centered problem solving, and your design process. Coursework, personal projects, and volunteer work are welcome; explain the problem, your role, your design decisions, and what you learned.
  • Design fundamentals and tools: Foundational understanding of interaction design, user flows, wireframes, and prototyping, with experience using Figma or a comparable design tool. Coursework and personal projects count; prior professional product design experience is not required.
  • Customer curiosity and inclusive design: Interest in understanding customer needs, using research to inform decisions, and making digital experiences accessible and inclusive. Exposure to user interviews or usability testing is helpful but not required.
  • Collaboration and learning: Communicate clearly, collaborate respectfully, ask thoughtful questions, and incorporate feedback from mentors, peers, and cross‑functional partners.
  • Communication and organization: Explain the reasoning behind your design work, share progress, and manage scoped tasks with guidance. Be willing to explore alternatives, iterate, and learn from feedback.
