Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Produce Clerk to keep the Produce Department stocked, fresh, and inviting, while delivering friendly service. You will rotate products, assist customers, and help maintain high quality standards in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a positive mindset, ability to stand and move throughout shifts, and teamwork to ensure a great shopping experience for customers in a busy retail setting.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ (as stated)
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; training provided

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer with a smile and assisting with needs
• Review merchandise status for freshness and rotate stock to maintain quality
• Ensure adequate product supply and develop daily production/merchandise list
• Check in product, store product, and review invoices as needed
• Prepare, finish, and replenish product as necessary
• Maintain sanitation and clean, neat, and safe work area
• Remove trash and assist with department upkeep
• Order product and supplies and price products for customers
• Answer phone promptly and provide friendly service
• Follow Hy-Vee dress code and department/company guidelines
• Assist with additional tasks or projects as needed

What You'll Do

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer with a smile, assisting them with their needs, and going the extra mile to make their shopping experience a great one
• Review the status and appearance of merchandise for freshness and replenish and rotate product to maintain quality standards
• Ensure an adequate product supply is ready and on hand; develop or follow a production list and anticipate daily product needs for the department
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed
• Prepare, finish, and replenish product as necessary
• Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe at all times
• Remove trash in a timely manner and assist with general department upkeep
• Order product and supplies and price products for customers as needed
• Answer the phone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call
• Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all department and company guidelines
• Pitch in with other tasks or special projects as they come up

Education and Experience

Less than high school diploma or equivalent experience accepted

Six months or less of similar or related work experience; we'll provide all the training you need to succeed

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment

This is a fast-moving role where things stay busy and engaging. You'll work in the produce department and can expect frequent exposure to temperature extremes and dampness, as well as possible equipment movement hazards, electrical equipment, and cleaning chemicals and solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
