Job summary

Hy-Vee, Inc. is seeking a Produce Clerk to support the Produce department. You’ll help keep shelves stocked, fresh, and attractive while delivering friendly service that invites customers to return.

This role emphasizes accuracy, sanitation, and teamwork in a fast-paced retail setting. As a Produce Clerk, you will rotate stock, assist with deliveries, price products for customers, and answer questions while adhering to Hy-Vee guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile, assist them, and go the extra mile to ensure a great shopping experience.
• Review merchandise for freshness, replenish and rotate product.
• Ensure adequate product supply and follow a daily production/ordering plan.
• Check in product, process invoices, and prepare/replenish items as needed.
• Maintain sanitation and keep the department clean, safe, and organized at all times.
• Remove trash and support overall department upkeep.
• Order product and price items for customers as needed; respond to phone inquiries politely.
• Adhere to Hy-Vee dress code and company guidelines; assist with other tasks as needed.

What You'll Do

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer with a smile, assisting them with their needs, and going the extra mile to make their shopping experience a great one
• Review the status and appearance of merchandise for freshness and replenish and rotate product to maintain quality standards
• Ensure an adequate product supply is ready and on hand; develop or follow a production list and anticipate daily product needs for the department
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed
• Prepare, finish, and replenish product as necessary
• Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe at all times
• Remove trash in a timely manner and assist with general department upkeep
• Order product and supplies and price products for customers as needed
• Answer the phone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call
• Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all department and company guidelines
• Pitch in with other tasks or special projects as they come up

Your Skills

You don't need extensive experience for this role; we'll provide the training you need to succeed. To hit the ground running, you'll need to be able to:

Reporting Relationships

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, Health Wellness Home; Produce Department Manager; Assistant Produce Department Manager

Education and Experience

• Less than high school diploma or equivalent experience accepted
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; we'll provide all the training you need to succeed

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment

This is a fast-moving role where things stay busy and engaging. You'll work in the produce department and can expect frequent exposure to temperature extremes and dampness, as well as possible equipment movement hazards, electrical equipment, and cleaning chemicals and solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre employment drug screen.
