Job summary

PAQ, Inc. Produce Clerk role located in Atascadero, CA seeks a friendly, reliable team member to support the produce department, assist customers, stock shelves, and help with pricing and inventory to ensure freshness and presentation.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, willingness to learn, and on-the-job training is provided. Weekend/evening shifts are required in a retail environment with available benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
  • Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus.
  • Pay range: $16.90 - $21.50.

Responsibilities

  • Follow approved procedures for receiving products, pricing, and stocking to ensure accuracy, product quality, and proper rotation.
  • Replenish the produce department's fruits, vegetables, and other items as assigned.
  • Move products in and out of storage areas for proper display and storage of goods, including refrigerating storage boxes.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality, and turnover for maximum sales and to minimize out-of-stock or overstocked products.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.

Job Summary

The Produce Clerk provides prompt, courteous, and efficient customer service, maintains the produce department's presentation, and assists with inventory and stocking.

Essential Functions
  • Follow approved procedures for receiving products, pricing, and stocking to ensure accuracy, product quality, and proper rotation.
  • Replenish the produce department's fruits, vegetables, and other items as assigned.
  • Move products in and out of storage areas for proper display and storage of goods, including refrigerating storage boxes.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality, and turnover for maximum sales and to minimize out‑of‑stock or overstocked products.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  • Monitor expiration dates of labeled goods to ensure only fresh products are available for customer purchase.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive, and friendly department to help ensure a favorable department image to customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge

Basic understanding of produce products and handling techniques; familiarity with retail stocking procedures and inventory management; knowledge of health and safety regulations related to food handling.

Physical Requirements

  • Perform repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, and handling products.
  • Maintain fine motor skills for handling small objects.
  • Move quickly and efficiently to assist customers and manage workload.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers and team members.
Work Conditions
  • Work Hours: Vary, with availability required on weekends, evenings, and holidays; typically 8‑hour shifts for full‑time employees.
  • Environment: Indoor, climate‑controlled, with adequate lighting and ventilation; relatively damp or humid conditions, including wet or slippery floor surfaces.
  • Primary Work Stations: Sales floor, backrooms, and refrigerated storage areas.
  • Dress Code: Professional and presentable attire determined by store management; name tag, company‑issued shirts, hats, jackets, or personal shirts (black, burgundy, or blue) in good repair and not faded.
  • Exposure: May be exposed to moving mechanical parts and cleaning chemicals.
  • Noise Level: Usually low to moderate, with occasional loud periods from customers, store announcements, and equipment.
  • Interaction: Constant interaction with customers and team members in a fast‑paced retail environment.
