Job Description

Assist department manager in implementing all company and division policies to achieve maximum sales and profits in the Produce department. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Develop maximum customer relations by produce department.
  • Keep department temperature logs accurately updated and maintained. Train and follow up with Produce associates on temperature logs to guarantee accurately recorded temperatures.
  • Assist department manager in making recommendations regarding the hiring, firing, disciplining, demoting, transferring and evaluating all produce department personnel.
  • Coach and train all associates to read scales and prices correctly, on customer courtesy and productivity.
  • Supervise all aspects of salad bar operations.
  • Maintain good communication with all store personnel.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and control the activities of the produce department in the absence of the Produce Manager.
  • Direct the receiving, storing, pricing, and merchandising of all produce products.
  • Order adequate stock and supplies and guard against waste and pilferage.
  • Maintain and submit required records and reports and use them effectively.
  • Maintain effective and good house cleaning in all areas.
  • Keep adequate supplies on hand: bags, pricing and making equipment.
  • Analyze continuously all aspects of produce department and periodically make changes, or make recommendations to store manager.
  • Demonstrate the ability and desire to promote, communicate and implement company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports in a positive manager.
  • Demonstrate aptitude to manage people and organize workloads.
  • Be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous, and professional in all interactions.
  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Willing work weekends, and holidays.
  • Understanding of all key components of department operations.
  • Knowledge of produce and store operations.
  • Adept at communication with employees, customers, and supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
  • Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression on associates and customers.
  • Possess abilities and skills for effective production, merchandising and customer services related to sale of merchandise.

  • Produce work experience or similar experience in food preparation.
  • Past work record reflects dependability and integrity.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to employment practices, safety, and food handling.
