Job summary

Baker Group is seeking a Procurement Specialist - Construction Materials to source, procure, and coordinate delivery of materials for mechanical and industrial projects. You will manage vendor relations, negotiate pricing, and ensure material availability while aligning with project specs and company policies.

Responsibilities include developing sourcing strategies, reviewing specs and take-offs, monitoring market trends, and coordinating with QA, logistics, and warehousing to ensure on-time

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or related field with 3+ years procurement experience, or a high school diploma with 5+ years procurement experience.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook Excel, Word).
• Strong knowledge of building materials (piping, sheet metal, electrical, related accessories).
• Strong organizational skills.
• Strong understanding of project specifications.

• Work with vendors and project managers on material procurement.
• Review project specifications, construction material take-offs, and technical documentation in coordination with engineering and construction teams.
• Monitor market trends, pricing, and lead times to mitigate procurement risks to support estimating and project managers.
• Coordinate with quality control, logistics, and warehousing to ensure timely delivery and compliance with quality standards.
• Maintain accurate procurement records, track material status, and generate regular reports for stakeholders.
• Thorough understanding of Buy America (BA-BAA) domestic standards.
• Work with vendors on material pricing changes and availability. Notify estimating and Business Units of affected materials.
• Assist in project kickoff meetings.
• Schedule meetings with project team to establish criteria necessary for shop ticketing process to support workflow from detailing, through shop, to field.
• Issue shop tickets and coordinate materials with shop manager.
• Review shop tickets and spool drawings for consistency and quality.
• Work with project team to support project milestones.

PURPOSE

The Procurement Specialist - Construction Materials is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and coordinating timely delivery of materials and equipment to support Mechanical and Industrial projects. This role is responsible for ensuring cost-effective purchasing, vendor management, purchasing negotiations, maintaining material availability, and contributes to project efficiency through collaboration with vendors, project teams, and internal departments while adhering to project specifications and company policies. By identifying prefabrication opportunities and supporting project planning and execution, the specialist plays a key role in promoting operational excellence and fostering long-term customer relationships in alignment with the \"Client for Life\" philosophy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
