Job summary

MSA North America on Auburn, ME, seeks a Procurement Specialist to lead strategic and tactical procurement of copper, aluminum and steel, plus subcontracted services. You will manage supplier relationships, pricing, sourcing, inventory, and material availability to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and on‑time deliveries.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in business or supply chain, 3–5 years in metal procurement, SAP experience, and advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivots).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years procuring commodity driven material (aluminum, copper, steel) preferred
  • ERP systems experience required (SAP preferred)
  • Strong demonstrated experience using MS Office software packages including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. High emphasis on use of excel, and needing exceptional ability to operate. (Ex: VLOOKUP, pivots, etc)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Ability to communicate and interface effectively with all levels of employees, leadership, and suppliers
  • Demonstrated performance in managing complex materials spreadsheets and tracking mechanisms
  • High motivation level and commitment to maintaining production schedule
  • Critical thinking and negotiation skills
  • Ability to multi-task, manage time efficiently and self-prioritize
  • Strong initiative and problem-solving abilities
  • High sense of urgency with the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Plan, negotiate and order raw material and indirect purchases for the company and create purchase orders
  • Expedite material shortages, track order progress and shipments
  • Improve vendor pricing, quality and delivery
  • Identify alternate suppliers or materials and issue RFQ’s
  • Work with AP to resolve supplier invoicing discrepancies
  • Own reports such as open orders, expired orders, order rescheduling, etc
  • Own key KPI’s for their supply chain (OTD, QA, Overdues, Cost Savings)
  • Lead scheduled calls with suppliers to track key topics and KPI’s
  • Support plant objectives of Safety, Quality, Service, Productivity, and Cost
  • Perform all other duties as instructed by the Procurement and Supply Chain Manager to assist in overall workload

Position Background/Profile

Located on site at the Auburn, ME facilities, the Procurement Specialist is responsible for the strategic and tactical procurement of raw materials to support manufacturing operations. The primary focus being copper, aluminum, and steel, in forms of coil, bar, and shapes. Additionally, this role will manage subcontracted services and indirect procurement activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement to support the company’s needs. This position oversees supplier relationships, pricing, sourcing, inventory requirements, and material availability, ensuring the business receives the correct materials in the required quality, quantity, cost, and timeframe.

The ideal candidate has strong experience purchasing metals and understands procurement workflow, commodity pricing, supplier negotiations, lead times, material specifications, and inventory management. The Procurement Specialist will work collaboratively with various departments to ensure uninterrupted material availability, while continuously identifying opportunities to improve supplier performance and reduce costs.

Key Activities / Responsibilities

Pay Range

$29.00/hr - $36.00/hr commensurate with experience

  • 3 Weeks of Vacationand40 hours Sick/Personal Timeavailable after 90-day probation period (Prorated through the year based on start date).
