Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Procurement Manager to lead indirect procurement for Power & Energy facilities. You will drive sourcing strategy, supplier performance, and cost improvements while leading a four-person procurement team in a complex manufacturing setting.

As a Procurement Manager, you will lead indirect procurement activities supporting Caterpillar's Power & Energy operations. You will serve as a strategic business partner responsible for driving sourcing strategy, supplier performance, procurement execution, and continuous improvement across a broad portfolio of indirect goods and services that support manufacturing, facilities, and business operations. This role combines procurement leadership, supplier management, business partnership, and people leadership responsibilities. You will lead a team of procurement professionals while partnering with Manufacturing, Engineering, Facilities, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations leaders to ensure suppliers, contracts, and procurement strategies are aligned with business objectives. This position offers the opportunity to influence procurement strategy, develop talent, strengthen supplier partnerships, and deliver measurable value across a critical segment of the business. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who can balance strategic initiatives with day-to-day operational demands, build strong relationships, and drive results in a complex manufacturing environment.

What You Will Do
  • Strategic Procurement Leadership Lead procurement activities supporting indirect spend categories across Power & Energy facilities. Develop and execute sourcing strategies aligned with operational requirements and business objectives. Support supplier selection, contract negotiations, competitive bidding, and purchasing decisions. Leverage supplier insights, market intelligence, and business analytics to improve procurement outcomes. Identify opportunities to reduce costs, drive compliance, mitigate risk, improve service levels, and enhance supplier value. Drive procurement transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supplier Management & Procurement Operations Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships. Manage supplier performance related to quality, cost, delivery, responsiveness, and partnership expectations. Lead supplier issue resolution and performance improvement activities. Support contract administration and procurement governance requirements. Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and business controls. Monitor procurement performance metrics and implement corrective actions when needed. Collaborate with Category Procurement teams.
  • Team Leadership Lead and develop a team of four Procurement Buyers supporting Power & Energy operations. Provide coaching, performance management, and career development support. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Establish team priorities and align resources with business needs. Drive capability development across sourcing, supplier management, analytics, and procurement operations.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, Facilities, Quality, Finance, Supply Chain, Legal, and Operations leaders. Serve as a trusted procurement advisor to business stakeholders. Align procurement strategy with operational requirements and business priorities. Support strategic initiatives and special projects across the organization. Build strong internal and external relationships that drive business results.
  • Analytics & Continuous Improvement Utilize procurement analytics and business intelligence to identify trends, risks, and savings opportunities. Analyze spend data and market conditions to support sourcing and category decisions. Improve procurement processes, workflows, and operational performance. Implement best practices that enhance procurement effectiveness and organizational value.
What You Have
  • Procurement Leadership Experience leading procurement, sourcing, supplier management, or purchasing functions within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Experience managing indirect procurement categories and supplier portfolios. Experience leading sourcing initiatives and supplier negotiations. Demonstrated success delivering cost, quality, service, or operational improvements.
  • People Leadership Experience leading, developing, and coaching procurement professionals. Ability to establish priorities, drive accountability, and develop high-performing teams. Experience leading within a dynamic business environment.
  • Supplier & Category Management Strong understanding of supplier management, strategic sourcing, and procurement best practices. Experience evaluating supplier performance and driving supplier improvement initiatives. Knowledge of contract management and category management processes. Ability to manage complex supplier relationships and business challenges.
  • Communication & Business Partnership Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to influence decisions and drive alignment across multiple functions. Experience working within matrixed organizations. Ability to build credibility with suppliers, peers, and business leaders.
  • Analytics & Decision-Making Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Experience utilizing data and market insights to support procurement decisions. Ability to assess risks, opportunities, and business impacts. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
What Will Set You Apart
  • Experience supporting Power & Energy, Industrial, Heavy Equipment, Engine, Turbine, or Electrical Power Generation operations.
  • Experience managing indirect procurement categories such as MRO, facilities, professional services, logistics, capital equipment, utilities, or business services.
  • Experience supporting multiple manufacturing facilities or business locations.
  • Knowledge of category management, supplier development, procurement analytics, and strategic sourcing.
  • Experience utilizing SAP, Ariba, MfgPro, Lognet, Coupa, Oracle, or similar procurement systems.
  • Professional certifications such as CPSM, CPM, CSCP, APICS, ISM, Lean, or Six Sigma.
  • Experience leading procurement transformation and organizational change initiatives.
