MercyOne is seeking a Sterile Processing Tech II to join our team in a fast-paced healthcare support role. You will clean, sterilize, and distribute medical instruments, ensuring infection control and patient safety while following industry standards.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, with specialized sterile processing training preferred and BLS certification. Prior experience with surgical instruments is encouraged, and safety protocols are strictly followed.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Decontamination & Sterilization: clean and sterilize surgical instruments per standards.
• Instrument preparation: inspect, assemble, and wrap trays and equipment.
• Inventory management: maintain supply levels and distribute to care areas.
• Equipment handling: operate sterilization equipment safely and efficiently.
• Patient support: transport patients and assist nursing staff (Cedar Falls location only).

About the Role

As a Sterile Processing Tech II, you will be responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, and distributing medical instruments and supplies for patient care. You will play a vital role in infection control and patient safety by ensuring all equipment meets the highest industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Decontamination & Sterilization: Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment per AAMI standards.
• Instrument Preparation: Inspect, assemble, and wrap surgical trays and equipment for use.
• Inventory Management: Maintain supply levels and ensure timely distribution to patient care areas.
• Equipment Handling: Operate specialized medical sterilization equipment safely and efficiently.
• Patient Support (Cedar Falls location only): Transport patients and assist nursing staff with pre-operative procedures.

What You Need to Succeed

• Education: High school diploma or GED required. Specialized training in sterile processing preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 6 months of experience working with surgical instruments or patient care support.
• Skills & Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology and sterilization techniques. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize urgent requests. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs; push/pull up to 150 lbs.
• Exposure to sterilization equipment, potential infectious materials, and a high-paced hospital setting.
• Must be comfortable working under pressure and following strict safety protocols.
