Job summary

Amazon LEO is seeking a Processing Lead Technician in Merritt Island, FL to supervise a team of technicians in mechanical assembly, testing and integration of satellite hardware for spaceflight.

You will mentor staff, uphold safety and quality standards, and coordinate with engineers to ensure timely production and launch readiness. Expect extended travel up to 25% annually and ability to obtain sensitive clearances as required.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent diploma.
• 4+ years of experience in mechanical hardware assembly, test, and/or installation.
• Able to obtain and maintain US Passport and meet entry requirements including immunizations.
• Able to pass Kennedy Space Center background checks.

Key job responsibilities

• Integration and test of the LEO satellite and various complex subassemblies in a cleanroom and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) controlled environment
• Operate forklift, pallet jacks, and other machines to move hardware
• Able to obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits, and/or certifications as required.
• Use precision calibrated tools – torque wrenches, multimeters, optical inspection devices, micrometers, and dial calipers
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Perform work according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions
• Run functional testing on units, including some basic troubleshooting operations
• Check and inspect your work after completion to ensure engineering and quality standards are met per the drawing and work instruction requirements
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to develop and document activities, including continuous improvement opportunities
• Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient, safe and effective work environment
• Nominal 1st shift schedule but schedule may vary depending on production/launch schedules.
• Must be willing and able to perform extended travel up to 25% annually, either domestically or internationally as business needs demand.
• Must be able to pass Kennedy Space Center background checks and maintain ongoing facility access.

A day in the life

The Processing Lead Technician will work closely with cross-functional engineering, test, quality and operations teams on flight hardware integration processes. This position requires skill and experience in a variety of areas, including mechanical assembly, propellent loading, rigging, operating heavy machinery (i.e., forklifts), running sub-system functional tests and troubleshooting test failures on space products. In short, you will be responsible for a majority of the most critical tasks to process the satellite for integration and launch operations while ensuring high quality, workmanship and safety standards are adhered to on a daily basis.

Basic Qualifications

• High school or equivalent diploma
• 4+ years of experience in mechanical hardware assembly, test, and/or installation
• Able to obtain and maintain a US Passport and must meet customs entry requirements to include but not limited to: Yellow Fever vaccine and other immunization requirements as recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a fast-paced, team environment
• Experience in the aerospace industry, automotive industry, aviation, military or other high-reliability operating environment
• Experience working with Foreign Object Debris (FOD), ESD sensitive hardware, and clean room requirements
• Experience with forklifts, cranes, rigging, and heavy equipment (including previous certifications)
• A demonstrated ability in reading/understanding technical drawings, work instructions and standard operating procedures
• Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
