Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Houston, TX is seeking a Process Technology Manager to lead early process studies, technology evaluations, and project development across major process facilities.

You will supervise technical activities, coordinate FEED through construction, and mentor engineers while cultivating client relationships and pursuing business opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field from an accredited program.
• Minimum 13 years related experience in design engineering or consulting.
• Advanced degree and/or professional designations (Professional Engineer license) desirable.
• Experience leading Front End Planning, detailed design and construction on process facility projects preferred.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Manage the technical direction, work assignments, and mentoring to other engineers for process engineering efforts on major projects.
• Manage client and team relationships to ensure the process design basis meets objectives; provide technical oversight from FEPP through construction.
• Plan, organize and direct feasibility studies, technology evaluations, and conceptual designs to support projects.
• Maintain knowledge of market trends and technologies; provide updates to management for strategic and marketing efforts.
• Establish and maintain relationships with prospective and existing clients.
• Identify opportunities and support business development tasks including submittals, proposals, and negotiations.
• Provide technical leadership and represent the company at conferences and seminars (papers, presentations, marketing events).
• Coach and mentor sales pursuits and proposal teams; mentor project staff with technical guidance.
• Manage and support quality review of projects for feasibility and soundness of plans.
• Oversee work activities of technical personnel in producing process engineering deliverables.

Description

The Process Technology Manager will be responsible for leading early process studies, technology evaluations and overall project development initiatives through application of experience in process design and technology implementation. The Process Technology Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating the technical process activities associated with assigned projects, technologies and/or clients

What you will do

• Manage the technical direction, work assignments, and mentoring to other engineers as assigned to support the process engineering efforts of major process facility projects.

• Manage client and team relationships on multiple assigned projects to help ensure that the process design basis is technically sound and meets the client project objectives. Provide technical oversite of assigned projects from early Front End Planning (FEP) through detail design and construction.

• Plan, organize and direct the execution of feasiblity studies, technology evaluations, and conceptual designs as required to support client projects or initiatives.

• Actively maintain current knowledge and understanding of market trends, and technologies. Provide periodic updates to division management in support of strategic initiatives, as well as marketing and sales efforts.

• Establish and maintain relationships with prospective and existing clients.

• Identify opportunities and support business development efforts to prepare submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiations, and related activities.

• Provide technical leadership and representation of the company through active participation in conferences and technical seminars, including activities such as writing papers, delivering presentations and/or supporting conference marketing initiatives and events.

• Coach and mentor sales pursuits and proposal development teams.

• Mentor project staff by providing guidance, instructions and expert level technical advice.

• Manage and support the quality review process for assigned projects, including the feasibility or soundness of proposed plans.

• Manage work activities of technical personnel in the production of process engineering deliverables

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field from an accredited program.

• Minimum 13 years related experience in design engineering or consulting required.

• Previous Engineering & Construction (E&C) experience is preferred.

• Experience leading Front End Planning, detailed design and construction on process facility projects preferred.

• Advanced degree and/or professional designations (Professional Engineer license) are desirable.

• Expert knowledge of refining industry design concepts and best practices, including fractionation, hydroprocessing, and conversion processes.

• Proven ability to develop and maintain client relationships.

• Working knowledge of refining economics and linear programming is preferred.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Proficiency in the use of process technical tools and software including process simulators and equipment rating programs.
