Job summary

Novus International, Inc. in Texas seeks a Process Technology Manager to lead chemical process engineering at the Alimet Technology Center. You will ensure regulatory compliance, drive process safety, and support capital projects to improve yield and product quality.

This on-site role operates in a 24/7 facility, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and requires a BS in chemical engineering with 5+ years of plant experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering required with 5+ years in chemical plant environment.
  • Experience with environmental permits, reporting, and safety compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety and control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight to ensure chemical operations comply with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Assist in aligning site processes with Quality, EHS and PSM standards.
  • Provide technical support to maintain or improve safety and environmental compliance.
  • Coordinate with partners and engineers to ensure timely environmental reporting.
  • Support SIS and conduct PHA/HAZOP studies and MOC evaluations.
  • Develop capital project proposals and startup support for projects under $5M.

General Responsibilities
  • . Provide oversight to ensure that chemical operations at our two plants are 100% in compliance with local environmental and safety regulations.
  • . Assist in keeping site business processes in line with those of the Management Systems such as Quality, EHS and PSM Process Safety.
  • . Provide technical assistance to maintain or improve safety and environmental compliance.
  • . Participation in Underground Injection Technology Council and Ground Water Protection Council meetings and correspondence to promote the continued use of underground injection disposal.
  • . Coordinate EHS compliance and management with third party partners and engineers to ensure that all environmental reports are correct and completed on time, including Responsible Care Metrics, Sustainability Report, Title V and and TRI reporting.
  • . Provide support of all Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) through participating in all Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) including 5 year revalidation and any Management of Change (MOC) that requires evaluating SIS logic or Basic Process Control System (BPCS) logic.

The Process Technology manager will be part of the Alimet Technology Center team based on-site and as such :

  • - Propose and implement process modifications to the chemical processes to increase and maintain process safety, improve yield and production, improve product quality, and reduce costs.
  • - Be involved in chemical process engineering activities for manufacturing at Novus sites and will develop and implement continuous improvements to existing chemical processes and conditions
  • - Provide technical oversight to ensure that operations at are compliant with Federal, State, Industry and Local Environmental, Safety, and Health regulations.
  • - Develop capital project proposals and justification. Provide process design and startup support for capital projects
  • - Facilitate environmental and safety audits with third party auditors and manage closure of findings
  • - Provide technical support and project management for small capital projects (under 5 million dollars) in process control systems and of process areas. This includes developing the justification and scope of the project, process design, process experiments, cost management, and startup support.
  • - Determine root cause of process problems and lead implementation of permanent solutions.
  • - Apply broad, in-depth engineering knowledge to investigate and solve complex technical problems and address business needs.
  • - Maintain engineering documentation.
  • - Provide engineering assistance to maintenance organizations as required.
  • - Write detailed engineering reports to document results in facility records.
  • - Maintain all current quality, safety and feed certifications.
  • - Actively participate in PHA/HAZOP studies, safety audits, and incident investigations.
Key Knowledge and Experience
  • . Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and 5+ years of Chemical Plant experience.
Skills and other Essential Requirements
  • . Chemical process engineering and chemical manufacturing plant experience is required.
  • . General knowledge of environmental permits and reporting is required (air permits and deep well injection in particular).
  • . Knowledge of DCS process control systems and SIL.
  • . PSM process safety.
  • . Fluent in English.
Physical Requirements:
  • . Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, twist, reach with arms or hands, climb multiple flights of stairs, crawl, crouch, kneel, write & type.
  • . Ability to see, speak, hear, and smell.
Work Environment:

This role works a Mon-Fri schedule but operates in a 24/7 chemical manufacturing facility which will require occasional off-hours assistance and troubleshooting. The person filling this role must be able to use personal protective equipment as required by OSHA standards. The role may require working around chemical plant machinery and piping, electrical equipment and instrumentation, high pressures, hot & cold temperatures, heights, moving mechanical parts, wet/slippery surfaces, vibrations and elevated noise levels. This role frequently interacts with other technology center employees as well as external clients, and consultants, as well as work alone. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. Must be able to interface with digital control systems.
